So I am definitely majoring in English, but I want to pair it with another major. I'm thinking Business Management or Econ, but I'm not really sure. Basically, I want to be ready to work in a publishing house and truly understand how a business runs, so that makes me lean towards a Management major. However, I've heard that Econ should be taken instead of business because it's harder and looks better. I don't want an easy major.. any suggestions?

A publishing house isn’t going to care if you take business management vs. econ, unless you’re going straight into the business side of things, which I’m not familiar with at all. If you’re thinking editing or production, any sort of business will be a plus, I’m sure, but I don’t think they’re going to be picky.

I work in publishing! I’m in editorial. and the truth is, nobody is going to care very much what you’ve majored in. I majored in medieval history, and I work with a lot of English majors and history majors and a couple of econ majors - no business majors, actually. I am living proof that it is entirely possible to work in publishing and have no clue how a business runs!

you need to decide what part of publishing interests you, and then you need to find internships. you’ll get a lot farther when you start job hunting if you have one or two impressive publishing internships, than if you have a business major.
