I'm going to be a high school senior this year. I am pretty much set on earning a pre-med degree in college and eventually moving on to med school and becoming a dermatologist. I had originally planned to major in Biology, but I am now realizing that this major is highly common and may lessen my chances of getting into med school.

I'd like to know what unique majors are still beneficial yet will make me stand out more when med schools are admitting students. I have no idea what to major in because I have many interests. Aside from loving biology and being good at sciences, I am very good at English, vocally trained and skilled in piano playing, interested in foreign languages and have taken Latin classes, and am good at math.

Please help me! I would just like to know what good majors are out there! I want to earn a degree that will still get me a good and stable job even if I don't continue on to med school.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you so much!

I have a similar problem to gabit38. My goal is to become a physician of some kind so I want to make it into med school and I’ve been trying to figure out what a useful thing to major in would be. I’ve read that any major is acceptable but humanities majors like philosophy help u build writing skills that let u do better on the writing portion of the MCAT. I know that I want to try to major in something entirely different from bio, chem, physics, etc. because I want a very well rounded education and a non-science major with science premed classes is a good mix. But I’m still unsure about what to choose since there are so many majors to choose from!

If you want to major in something that you can fall back in the case you don’t go to med school, then go into Engineering, a Hard science like Chemistry or physics, Geology, Economics, Finance, Accounting, something along those lines, where you can actually gain technical and/or analysis skills.

Thanks! Those are good suggestions that I will definitely be considering!
