What to NOT bring to BS

Hi everyone,
So I’ve seen a lot of lists as to what I SHOULD bring to bs but idk what I should NOT. I tend to overpack and I don’t want to bring things that I won’t need…advice?

Well, for starters, don’t bring anything that the school (or the state) prohibits. No halogen lamps, e.g.

Both my kids didn’t want a printer. They didn’t need their own, and it just cluttered the room.

Good to know about the printer as I was recently contemplating that one.

I think it really depends on your child. We never bought printers until our fourth child asked for one halfway thought the year. She loves editing on hard copies and found she really missed having one.
I also think the general advice of don’t bring too much stuff rings true. After dragging it all home from dorm rooms this year, we all realized less is more. Many unopened toiletries and clothes with the tags on were forgotten or not needed

Bring only enough clothing for 2-3 weeks. Do not overpack. There is very little storage in most dorm rooms and, if you manage your laundry well, it will be very easy to tidy up for room inspections. You can always bring other things after Thanksgiving. Do not bring winter coats etc until Thanksgiving at a minimum.

Do not bring gaming systems.
Especially as a new student.

Lol, don’t bring a movie projection screen! One kid brought one LY and never used it Last I heard he just “gave” it away to another kid in his dorm at move-out.

If you are shipping more than 10 boxes, you are shipping too much.

@london203 I would want to bring a high end pc? Do you think I should bring one as well as a laptop.

No need for both a desktop and a laptop. The rooms are small enough as it is.

On one of the parent college forums I saw a suggestion to put everything you want to bring in a room, then remove half of it.

Read the handbook for your school - usually things like halogen lamps, microwaves, mini-fridge (except for medical reasons), hot pots, etc. are not allowed. Most give a suggested packing list too.
