Daughter has been accepted and we will be visiting for two days over spring break from the west coast. Besides the walking tours and normal campus stuff, what else do you think are things we should see during our visit? I am guessing there is a "university avenue " area with shopping and restaurants that might be fun to see,etc.........

Most of the shopping and restaurants are on Grand River Avenue north of campus.

don’t waste your time. i’m FINALLY getting out of here after the worst four years of my life. i regret going to msu wholeheartedly; and if you’re flying in from the west coast, prepare to be sorrily disappointed. there’s really nothing to see. the campus isn’t different from 99% of other college campuses. the academics aren’t impressive, it’s not great on a resume, and if you’re not a sports fan, you really have no place here.

The Michigan Historical Museum in Lansing is impressive. There are also art museums on campus and off in East Lansing and Lansing. There are other museums also on campus. There are different shows at the MSU Pavilion, Breslin Center and Wharton Center.

Wow, blondie. If things were actually that bad why on earth would you stay for 4 years? Why did you not transfer if you were really that miserable? Plenty of other institutions of higher learning all over this country.

blondie - I’m from the west coast and I love it at MSU. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, and I completely disagree as to your assessment about the quality of academics here…granted I am in a residential college which might skew my views a bit. MSU is definitely a sports place…but even the people least interested in sports become at least partial sports fans with the awesome school spirit! Just because you have had a bad experience at MSU doesn’t mean everyone else will.

Grand River Ave is the “university ave” you speak of. I would recommend going to the MSU dairy store…delicious ice cream. There are the botanical gardens on campus that are pretty nice as well. East Lansing is a pretty average college town, but there are lots of things outside of it. If you like shopping, Meridian mall in okemos is a quick bus ride away. Eastwood Towne center in Lansing is also pretty nice.
