In the Linear Algebra class I just took at my local community college, we actually used calculus. Not multivariable calculus, but we definitely used differential calculus of one variable. Our textbook also had some sections involving differential equations, but we didn’t cover those sections.

what ever high school is so fabulous that it offers number theory, Diff EQ, Linear A, Calc B/C and 3. ??? Can’t imagine.

A stats course is very valuable for a lot of majors. My son wishes he had taken one earlier. He had taken a pure math progression for a while before finally taking stats which he really needed for research projects and was winging it for a year. Many majors require an intro stats course.

Strictly speaking Calc BC is supposed to be Calc 3 or Multivariable Calculus though most kids repeat it in college unless they had a very thorough grounding in it. The next course in the progression Linear Algebra which is what my math kid took in college after taking BC Calc as a senior in high school. From there you can take Analysis, Diff Equ, and many other math offerings.

But I would take the stats option in your son’s case and take the MV Calc in college.
