I'll be moving to Berkeley on the 17th as I will be taking a class through the Freshman Edge program. I have several concerns about what items I need to take to Berkeley and was wondering if someone would be able to clear things up for me.

What are the essential things that I need to take with me?

Will any of the following items be necessary?
-Towels
-Laundry materials (detergent, fabric softener, etc.)
-Pillows, blankets, sheets, etc.
-Printer
-Food/drink items
-Microwave/refrigerator

Thank you very much in advance for your assistance

If they only give you as much in the school year, then towels will be necessary, laundry materials will be necessary, pillows/blankets/sheets will be necessary, printer will only be necessary if you want to print in your room/don’t have access to a library, food will be necessary if you like to snack, and I believe you aren’t allowed to have microwaves, but you can bring a fridge if you feel like you’ll need it (like if you absolutely can’t live without yougurt).

Other than that, clothes, shampoos, shower caddy (if the bathrooms are communal), anything you might want for entertainment, etc.

A printer is nice to have, but not necessary. There are other places around campus you can print for a few cents (ex. libraries, ASC). If you’re staying in the dorm, they’ll have a communal microwave / fridge for you. I don’t really recommend keeping them in your room as, from personal experience, it makes it easier for you to not leave your room to eat and to load up on junk foods (ex. my roommate lived off of ramen and macaroni).

Small snacks are always good to have though if you’re the snacking type. Also, it’s good to bring shower shoes, desk lamp, and ethernet cable.
