What to tell UCI counselors about possible UCLA transfer?

I'm entering UCI as a freshman this fall however I'm almost certain I will try to transfer to UCLA/ UCB or USC in the next one/two years. So should I let my counselor know right away that is my goal so that way he/she can set up the required courses etc to transfer? I'm just a bit worried because I'm going into biology (UCI has a good bio program) and that they'll question me on transferring (I have other reasons -location, enviroment etc). A lot of people say if you're for sure you going to transfer might as well start off at a CCC but I'd rather start off at UCI because its stability and if anything I can still go to UCI. So what should I say to the counselors? Should I wait before telling them that I want to transfer or should I just be flat out honest at the freshman orientation and tell them my goals are to ultimately transfer?

I don't know if it's the "right" thing to do... but if it were me, I would tell them. That way you can have the most help. They'll probably know what you need, what classes you should finish first to have the best transition, etc. But anyways, good luck!

i'm a uci student here. in my 3rd quarter(finishing first year) and have always wanted to transfer to ucla and i am gonna try, but let me tell you. If you for sure wanna go to ucla, then it is not worth coming here. Your chancing become very slim for transfer. but if you do decided to come to uci, then tell your counselors for sure at first so they put you on the right track. Since we are going from uc to uc it is very important for us to complete our breadth requirements(general ed.) and definitely must finish all your prereqs before transferring. i would advise you to go to cc because it's much easier to get a 4.0 then here. i'm biomedical engineering major here and i'm struggling to keep a decent gpa. even though the avg bme major gpa is 2.7, i have to get at least 3.6 to have a decent chance of transfer. Bottom line is getting A's in ccc is much easier than uci. weigh your options; btw if you're not getting full covered by uci then don't come because when you realize that you should have gone to ccc, the amount of money that your parents spent on you will come and hunt you. good luck with your decision.

bumpppppppp

Just tell them. I'm a freshman at UCSD and during welcome week, when advisers were entertaining inquiries about which classes to take or how classes work, I just went into walk-in advising hours and asked them about intercampus transfers. Even if they're a little taken aback, perhaps offended that school has yet to start but you're already thinking of transferring out, they'll still be nice about it help you as much as they can. The adviser I talked to didn't give me an evil eye or anything.

But I have to admit, so far my advisers haven't been that helpful. Most of the time they tell me to contact the UC I want to transfer to if I have questions. They didn't tell me anything about finishing my GEs or pre-requisites, and I pretty much researched the UC reciprocity agreement on my own.(One adviser even erroneously told me I wouldn't finish my GEs till junior year!). But I don't expect them to know not that much about transfers anyway.

Anyway, tell them, they'll help to the best of their ability, I'm sure. If they don't have the answers, they'll try to refer you to a website or person who does.
