What to use as a safety: Harvard or Princeton?

okay, just kidding. but anyway, i have a question that seems silly to me, since i'm finished with my college apps already: how do you pick a safety school? is it just based on numbers? i asked my counselor and he kind of equivocated, so i thought you guys would know.

and just to clarify - i did apply to a school that's a definite safety, but i hope to death that i don't have to end up going there so i'm trying to figure out what else to use. i'm doing questbridge so my application timing is weird.

Search Tokenadults posts. There is a kind of overview that may help you on the topic.

a place that you're absoultely sure will accept you...yeah you pick a school that accepts most of its applicants AND you are in the top 25% stats-wise. basically a safety is more like a school that only looks at stats and has more or less an "equation" for admittance

thanks! 10 char

Search "love thy safety"

Early acceptance at a school with EA or rolling admissions can also be considered a safety. While it may not fall within the traditional definition of a safety, it is "in the bag" which is the purpose of a safety.

i would've done EA somewhere, but since i used the QuestBridge app i wasn't allowed to...

Can you do rolling admission state schools with Questbridge though?

Yes, rolling admissions are allowed, and I believe OP could have applied EA. There was some discussion on the QB thread regarding this. I looked back at D's match e-mail, and it said,

"You must now withdraw all other applications as your match is binding."

Obviously, OP could not apply ED anywhere, but we took it as EA and rolling were fine.
