Hi everyone!! i just got accepted into cornell and in a few weeks i’m going to be going to cornell days. I’m also spending a couple extra days in ithaca and was wondering what things i should do when i’m there. I’m not spending a super long time, but i want to do a lot so i can really see what it’s like and if cornell is the place i want to go! So if you have any suggestions if places i should go, things i should do, restaurants i should eat at, or any other useful info about cornell or ithaca please let me know!
If you want to venture out, go see the many beautiful state parks and waterfalls in and around Ithaca. Ithaca Falls, Buttermilk Falls, Lucifer Falls, Taughannock Falls.
Weather permitting, you should walk down to Ithaca Commons and check out the shops and restaurants. There are buses which go down to the Commons from campus, but it is definitely walk-able (although it can get pretty tiring coming back uphill to campus). You should definitely walk down to Collegetown and visit Collegetown Bagels and some of the stores there.
Assuming a car:
Upper Treman State Park, Taughannock Falls, Cornell Dairy Bar, Cornell Plantations, Ithaca Farmer’s Market on weekends. From there you can take a boat ride on Cayuga Lake. If they’re doing that then.
There’s lots of restaurants, best thing maybe is to look them up on Yelp or something.
If you want to eat like a Cornellian who should be studying (of my era anyway) you can get a Sui or an MBC at the Hot Truck in back of West campus. If you can figure out when it’s open. Or, more easily, at Shortstop Deli downtown.
Check Cornell and Ithaca websites & newspapers for things going on around the area while you’ll be there.
You could also see if any of the links still work from this old post:

Probably most of them are obsolete, but I’m far too lazy to re-do it.
I was just at the Farmer’s Market last weekend, which was opening weekend. It’s simply a fantastic market, which many others have been modeled after. You can spend hours in there and not get bored!
