Hey! I contacted with my interviewer yesterday and he suggested meeting at the fulbright commision at 19.00 next week. I wrote a reply saying that the place and time is suitable and asked whether I should bring anything. A friend of mine had this interviewer 2 years ago and he said the man tries to discourage students and tell them they dont stand any chance for getting into MIT. That makes me quite nervous as u can imagine. But the funny thing is that my friend got into MIT after that discouraging interview anyway.
So, what shall I do to impress the interviewer? I mean how should I prepare, what should I wear and how should I react to his pessimist style? :) Thanks for your replies..

Bring a short resume, highlighting your ECs and interests more than scores. It can be a way to help the flow of conversation.

Dress comfortably. One possibility is khacki's and shirt, or sweater. I don't think its necessary to wear a tie or jacket. My S wore sneaks, as he doesn't own dress shoes.

You've already answered your own question about interviewer's pessimism--don't take it to heart. You want to convey your interest in MIT--what the school can do for you, and what you hope to bring to it.

Well, at least you know what to expect! Mentally prepare yourself to handle the pessimism and you should do great :p

good luck :-D

I saw a lot of pessimism, but that was probably just my interview. As mentioned before, my interviewer was not the best...

He was fairly pessimistic. As mentioned before, the short resume made the interview and subsequent evaluation a rundown list of my accomplishments. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about the interview. But do be prepared to handle the pessimism =).

My interview was very laid back and and an extraordinarily positive interview. The interviewer closest to me was on a business trip on the other side of the country, so I instead drove two hours to Modesto for the interview. I brought nothing with me, wore a nice polo shirt and shorts, and showed up roughly 10 minutes early.

For your interview, I'd say just stay calm, and be yourself. It might be a little weird that you're talking to someone that you've never met before, but just imagine you're talking to a good adult friend of yours, and I assure you it will end up working out well.

As for what to bring and what to wear, that's generally up to the interviewers discretion. You can call him/her and ask specifically (that's what I did), and I was informed that, "nah, don't worry about bringing anything with you, besides yourself, and wear whatever you feel comfortable in". I've heard that other interviewers like to look at a short resume, or would like you to come in a shirt and tie. Just make sure that you know what they generally want to see, and work from there.

Good luck!
