What to wear for interview?

I have this interview for this Teen Board sort of thing and it's at the City Hall with a lady from the Mayor's office. She didn't say anything about dress code though, so I don't know what to wear. I don't want to dress too casual or too formal. Has anyone interviewed in a similar situation, and what did you wear?

I'm thinking that jeans and tee are too casual? Or can I wear really nice jeans and niceish shirt? Or do I have to wear dress pants and a nice blouse? Help!

Jeans and shirt would work. However,I would prefer more casual style :)

what is more casual than jeans and a shirt? yea you’re right cr7, he should go to an interview wearing board shorts and wife beater.

If you must wear jeans, definitely wear a really nice shirt. I interviewed in jeans and a really nice shirt/blazer/heels for an internship with my congressman; but I hadn’t been informed we would have the interview before hand. (Supposed to be just a tour…)

Personally, I would say either suit pants and nice shirt (carry the jacket) or a dress/skirt with nice shirt and heels (if your a female, obviously). I always try to err on the side of overdressed for these types of things.

I’m a girl, but I don’t really wear dresses. I could buy dress pants though and a nice blouse…that’s as formal as it’s going to get.

I want to wear jeans/shirt because its more comfortable, but I don’t want to feel stupid if she’s dressed up…plus it’s the mayor’s office so maybe it should be very formal? But then I have to go buy dress pants and I don’t want to…

hmm maybe I’ll post this in the parents section too. They’ll probably tell me to the exact opposite and to dress up.

Do not wear jeans! Wear nice black pants and a nice shirt – and if the shirt is cut low, wear a cami that covers you! In other words, you should go with business casual. Black does wonders for a professional look, but if you don’t have black, try nice khaki pants. I just went through this with my daughter – so I know.

I think it’s better to overdress than under dress.

ETA: Ugh, I went on Nordstroms.com to find a decent appropriate outfit to show you, and somehow ended up looking for clothes for me.
Damn them and their sale.

I’ve decided on the dress pants/blouse combo. As much as I’d like to wear jeans, business casual is probably the right way to go.

agree with plattsburgh. When you overdress, the interviewer will be slightly amused at your cautiousness but won’t be in a bad mood. When you underdress, however, he or she will be angry.

I generally think a neat collared/ polo shirt is aproppriate enough. GL though.

Perhaps black jeans, if you have them, and a blouse or collared shirt?
Black jeans look more formal.

make sure to wear shoes too

Ew, black jeans. X_X Sorry, we have to wear black jeans for work and I HATE how they look.

Personally, I would wear something a bit nicer (dress pants and decent blouse).

Khaki jeans/skirt and a polo/blouse

I’m not paying attention to gender. That’s just general advice if you don’t know. It’s both casual and nice. =)

I already had my interview: I wore a very nice blouse, and nice jeans (I know, I know). When I emailed her specifically about dress code, the lady had told me it was ok to come casual (thus, the jeans). Guess what? When I got there, there were three interviewers, all in skirts, nice blouses, and high heels.
Ughhh. Oh well, it’s done with now. I’ve learned my lesson. ALWAYS ALWAYS BUSINESS CASUAL FOR INTERVIEWS!
