what to wear to a coffeeshop

what do you wear to an interview at a coffee shop?

sorry if there’s already a thread on this…i searched, but couldn’t find one

Wear something you would wear to school. You should feel like you look nice, but it is still a coffee shop.

Dress neat and casual...colleges won't judge you based on fashion, but what you have come to say. Just avoid anything ripped, tight, revealing, muddy, etc. Best of luck!

P.S. What college are you have an interview for?

I would suggest clean comfortably fitting clothes, free of any offensive slogans, tears or smells. You have seen their college image as projected in their mailings. Nothing too sexy, or too up tight...just comfortable for most schools.

I just showed up in my street clothes for all of mine, coffee shop and hotel.

thanks for all the quick responses!

elbereth...it's for brown
my school has uniforms, so i'd feel kinda weird showing up in that...
are jeans and a nice shirt (not t-shirt) ok?

thianks, illmatic, but i actually want to get into the college :p

Oh, I didn't know it was for an inteview...I'd wear my most formal attire if it was

without looking like a complete idiot

I wore just my regular clothes. (I was interviewed for Brown at a coffee shop as well and was accepted ED). I wore a leather jacket, leather shoes, etc. Just normal clothing. You'll do fine. :)

tore,

best check my message I dropped on you in the Tufts forum little guy

If a student showed up for a coffee shop alumni interview with me in a school uniform, I'd know s/he came directly from school and was still in uniform; wouldn't be a problem at all. No need to go crazy changing clothes for the interview, especially if you carry yourself well in the uniform. If you'd feel more comfortable changing first, feel free. Neat, clean clothing is appropriate; you want to make a positive impression. Generally most folks will suggest something other than jeans, but the reaction to jeans would vary with the interviewer.

if you are a girl wear a skimpy bikini...that's sure to get you in...hehe

Just wear something you feel comfortable in that's appropriate to your age and status as a HS Senior. Trust yourself. If you want to dress up a little and look nice that's fine. Don't go to job interview level professional clothing wear. (But we are on the West Coast where jeans are fine for business or interview.) DD had an interview for Brown with a professor at a local (very, very good) college. It was all casual. She wore a knee length skirt and simple top. I was impressed that the interviewer gave 2 hours and was relaxed, open, positive and complimentary. This person does not interview regularly, but is used to writing reccos', and seemed genuinely interested in what dd had to say, she felt the interviewer really 'got her', and even filled her in on why she was so selling herself without realizing it. So, I think Brown sends a pretty relaxed messages to the interviewers. And the interviewer gave some very valuable feedback too.

I'd stay away from jeans.
