Many prep schools have strict dress codes, and if we can't wear jeans or sweatpants, what do we wear? What types of clothing are most common at boarding schools? I know that there have been similar posts to this, but besides just specific brand names, what type of shirts, sweaters, pants, exc. do people typically wear?

Boys mostly have a strict dresscode: Slacks, dress shoes or nice shoes, a blazer, a tie, and a collared shirt.
Us girls, however, have more options. We can wear skirts, dresses, and pants. Dress pants, cords, and khakis are acceptable materials for pants. Similar materials too for skirts. Dresses just have to be below the fingertips, not see through, no holes, no spaghetti straps or strapless, etc. Tops such as blouses, dress tanks and camisoles under a cardigan and sweaters are what I think of. Blazers too are okay.
Shoes such as boat shoes, sandals, Toms, rainboots, uggs, dress boats, birkenstocks?? are worn, most likely. Make sure to wear stuff that is comfortable and weather-appropriate as you will be walking around outside between classes through the slush and snow.
But this is just a guess. I am just a lucky applicant and won’t know until I go to school next year.

Writing–depends on the school. check boardingschoolreview.com and find out how the school classifies their dress code. Look at their web site and see what the kids have on, or dont have on.

Ask questions of current students and parents. Plus remember this is the time to create your own style. Stay within the guidelines but dont follow others…define yourself.

Good Luck!

Depends on the dress code.
