Maybe I’m overanalyzing here, but what should a person wear to open house? (Let’s just say US top 25 college) would shirt and tie be excessive or just right? Thanks.

waayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy tooo excessive

jeans and a shirt would be more than enough.

a tie?!!! trust me, u DONT wanna wear that

A tie to open house???

Oh man, first impressions last, and when everyone sees you in a tie, you will not be able to remove the big "geek alert" sign from over your head.

You don't have to impress anybody here. Besides, most of the top 25 are liberal enough to let anything fly so go ahead and dye your hair bright blue. No one is going to care.

trust me they might just name a chair in the library after u if u weara tie to open house

i dont know what kind of a prson u are, but cmon man, if u wear that to open hose everyone will assume ur a geek. maybe thats the impression u want to give, maybe not. i dunno. but friendly advise- wear shorts/pj's/jeans and u'l fit right in.
wear a tie and kids will mistake u for faculty.

Hahahaha. Nice.

BTW, which college is this?

Given that it's an open house, that means you've already been accepted. That means it's thier turn to kiss your ### for a change. Wear whatever you want.

alright guys. My bad. I was just wondering.

Ahaha, Flavius.

I wore a dress shirt and pants to my NYU tour, and I didn't feel out of place at all. No tie, though.

An open house seems like it would be even less formal. No one was dressed up at all at my UCSB open house event. I wore regular pants and a shirt to that one. A lot of people dressed in jeans, shorts, etc.

Then again, the way people dressed to the events was probably related to the locations of the universities.

I don't see any harm in dressing semi-formally for an open house at a Top 25 college.
