Hi, my D is meeting a coach for the first time during a visit, but does not know what to wear. She trying to create positive interest and add to coach's first impression. An easy answer, sure, but it could be important. Wear sweats/practice stuff and be able to give coach a quick show and tell? Wear jeans and nice shirt and be casual/informal? Wear neat pants and shirt showing some coach respect and self respect? Or, wear a skirt and a blouse being professional and respectful? Thanks!

Well on my Princeton athletic visit, I wore jeans and a flannel, so I guess that’s casual for a guy. I think it’s good to be casual but not too dressy, because she will probably be walking around campus a lot and visit dorms and stuff like that.

My son wore khakis and a nice shirt (not a dress shirt). I think you want to present yourself as showing the coach you are taking the interview seriously but not overdressing too much for it - you are an athlete after all. I think sweats/practice stuff is way too casual. Plus NCAA rules dictate you can’t actually do a “show and tell” - anything that could be construed as a tryout.

I agree with everything Cantiger wrote. Here’s what the coaches really care about, in order of importance:

Can the applicant help my team?

Are they admittable?

Will they fit in with the team/stick around four years?

What did they wear to the interview?

@sherpa lol @your list…but true!
