What type of biology?

I want to major in biology of the human body (like muscles and bones). What kind of biology would that be called? Thanks.

Anatomy and physiology?

Is that a major? Or a focus?

No but there is not major that focuses solely on the human body, in my experience.

Okay so what would be the closest thing to that? Thanks.

Some schools do have Anatomy but it’s not that common. You have to be more specific with your choice, like molecular biology, biochemistry, or evolutionary biology.

How about the closest thing to how the muscles move and work together? Something that would prepare me for grad school in kinesiology. (I would do an undergrad major in that, but most D3 schools do not offer it and that is where I’m looking to go)

Well, darn. I was just going to suggest Kines. Surely you could find a fair number of schools that offer it out of 430+ schools. You might want to consider some non-D3 schools that offer it if you can’t, and major in whatever allows you to take as many of the more relevant courses as possible (look at a school course calendar and compare course offerings to programs).

@TitoMorito Well you understood what I was saying then haha. The problem is that I need/want quite a few things.

1) Play D3 basketball (absolute must)
2) good financial aid (need and/or merit)
3) reputable school (I know Wash U in St. Louis has good sciences)
4) Kinesiology/exercise science/exercise physiology

I could live without one of the last two since I plan to go to grad school for kinesiology. Most GOOD kinesiology programs are found at large research universities. So I don’t want to choose one school over another mainly because they have kinesiology major, just to find it is not a very good program.

What are your thoughts? I have 35 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, #1 rank

Thanks for your help.

The name may vary.

For example, UC Davis has an Exercise Biology major and an Exercise Science graduate major. UC Berkeley used to have a Physical Education (academic) department and major that was merged into the current Integrative Biology department and major. However, both are in NCAA D1.

Here are the course listings for UC Berkeley Integrative Biology (course numbers 123-129 and 223 are the physical education ones): [General Catalog - Integrative Biology Courses](http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_list_crse_req?p_dept_name=Integrative+Biology&p_dept_cd=INTEGBI)

Here are the UC Davis courses in Exercise Biology: [UC Davis General Catalog | Exercise Biology (EXB) & Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior (NPB) Courses](http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/UCDWebCatalog/programs/NPB/NPBcourses.html)

Here are the UC Davis courses in Exercise Science (graduate level): [UC Davis General Catalog | Exercise Science (EXS) Courses](http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/UCDWebCatalog/programs/EXSgg/EXSggcourses.html)

You may want to see if similar courses are available at schools you are considering.

Thanks ucbalumnus. I will ask some admissions people if they offer any of those classes or similar ones.

The on-line course catalogs and schedules would probably answer your question better than the admissions offices.

I don’t actually know much about specific colleges down there without researching them, so I’m not of much help, sorry. You’re in an excellent position to get merit-based aid, though.

I will second ucbalumnus’ suggestion to look the courses up yourself, as it will be much more accurate and faster than talking to people in admissions, who may not know much about the actual course content. I’ve taken a few courses similar to the ones you’re looking for, so if you’re unsure about a course, post it here, and hopefully I’ll see it! :p
