what type of grades are required for JHU?

Im a sophmore and cumativley so far have around a 3.8-3.9 gpa, bunch of ec's, varsity rower, and currently a student of classical guitar (my teacher graduated from peabody and is still very active there, James Hontz is his name if anyone knows him). I was interested in going to peabody, but also applying for a double major in literature and philosophy, and being a part of the writing seminar. I am also interested in studying languages (French / Italian primarily). I guess wat im asking is that do i have the academic requirements to potentially gain acceptance into the double major program or even the literature/philosophy program.

There's a tool called "Search" and a website known as www.jhu.edu that you can use to acquire your answer...:)

AV GPA IS 3.85 MEDian is 3.66, rank maters most...shoot for top 10%

cwatson, it's actually 3.85 median and 3.66 mean which is probably due to yield rate reasons-pure speculation gl!

yea i guess thats all good and well but it seems to be in my school that the the top of the class has some rediculously high gpa's and that people with like 4.2 and 4.0's arent even in the top 10%. Do they compare your gpa to the rest of your schools or to the rest of their applicants.

yes, rank is accounted for if your school ranks...i'm sorry...what i meant above regarding the gpa thing...can also be due to their heavy application of the holistic review.

Darkhope, do you work in the admissions office or are you just guessing?

just giving a possiblity which is absoluetely only a guess hence why i said pure speculation...it's possible that they used different means of calculating gpas also or etc...

Please search old threads where I have commented numerous times about how we approach the admissions review process and what we factor in. Also read old Hopkins Insider blog entries. We have discussed these topics over and over and over again.

More importantly, looking at an average GPA is going to tell you nothing about your chances for admission. Do a search about GPA and I have discussed those questions before as well.

Finally, please do not listen to students about these questions -- they are not part of the Admissions process and do not know how it works. Stating things like "rank matters most" and having discussion about why average GPAs are what they are is just wrong!!! Sorry, I don't have time to go into great detail, but if you do a bit of searching you will find my HONEST answers published before.
