What type of person wouldn't be happy at Duke?

Duke is not currently “affiliated” with the United Methodist Church. HOWEVER, it has significant historical and symbolic ties to the Methodist Church as its founders were Methodist and the Church was involved at that time. But you’d have NO IDEA that Duke has these roots in its current state if you hadn’t read the history books; its governance is completely independent. It’s no different than any other non-affiliated school. Schools like ND, BC, and Georgetown, for example, are on a different level, and even Georgetown and BC are pretty tame.

Duke is pretty diverse. I’m sure you can find some place to fit in; whomever you are.

Duke may be Methodist, but this does not predominate on campus AT ALL. A college like Villanova would be pretty religious, but Duke doesn’t have any one “religion”.

If Duke is Methodist, then Princeton is Presbyterian; Harvard is Puritan, and Yale is Congregationalist (all true).

The reason I brought it up is because Duke is still said to have a Methodist affiliation. Harvard, Yale, and Princeton have no affiliation. Seeing as how they all have religious roots, I figured there was a reason for this distinction.
But thanks for the input. As I said, it’s not really something I’m worried about.

Duke HAD a Methodist affiliation. Princeton HAD a Presbyterian affiliation. No longer. In fact, the current dean or chaplain (or whatever he is called) of the Duke chapel is Anglican.
