Any suggestions about personal printers? Are students allowed to print in the computer labs? (Color? B&W? Price per page?). Do we need to get S a personal color printer- or would a B&W laser be better? Thanks for any input.

Select a color inkjet that has scanning and copying capability. D at another college found this an invaluable combination. HP and Canon make several. We're sending D to USC with HP380 (less than $100). Cost per page is impossible to predict. The page contents are the variable. Heavy ink use compared to light ink use means that prediction of ink cartridge replacement is VERY difficult. The HP uses a relatively inexpensive ink cartridge.

we bought S a fairly cheap ( 39/49$$..there were lots of models on sale during move in time) color non laser printer at Target. It helps to have their own as the labs arent always convenient in locale or open the hours they keep as college students.S says kids w/o their own printers used flash drives to load their stuff on and then used their friends printers or the labs if they were open. And he thinks they did charge in the labs/library.
we provided him with 2 packages of paper and one change of ink then he was on his own. The college bookstore sells supplies. Some of S's papers were submitted electronically to the prof's.He says the flash drives are indespensible.
