What Types of Hazing did you go through? And with what frats?

Hey, I'm a freshman here, and I'm looking to join some of the top-tier frats....probably PIKE, Sig Pi, etc....

I was wondering about anyone's experiences with hazing (not necessarily those frats) and which frats have reputations for really ****ed up hazing (life-threatening ones)?

im pretty sure noboy is going to answer this question honestly.

especially because hazing is "prohibited."

although none of it is true...haha

are you saying its worse? haha

its better.

He's probably saying there's a lot of hazing that doesn't make it to the books in the form of that website. But any form of pledging won't be as bad as you might think it would be... just remember that all the current brothers made it through eventually.

i would say that 95% of all cornell fraternities haze in some shape or form. it doesn't necessarily mean something crazy but just being in a situation or smething you wouldn't normally do. there are exceptions such as pi kapp, acacaia, and seal & serpent. but most houses do.

Noone is going to write about hazing online (esp w/ the house name) unless they are dirty rushing which is stupid. The only way ur going to find out is rumors (which may or may not be true) or a friend in a frat telling u confidentially. Try both lol

On the above referenced hazing.edu site, the paper "Hazed and Confused" - I believe was written by a former FIJI pledge (he called it "Alpha Gam" in the paper.) I'm hoping it's better today. Regarding Pi Kapp, I'm glad they don't haze anymore. I believe they re-formed a few years after national pulled the chapter. In the "Interview with Ex-Fraternity Member" at the end of the "Hazed and Confused" paper... Jim, the person interviewed was in Pi Kapp.

Please do your research and make thoughtful decisions. Rush is a lot of fun. I am a proponent of Greek Life, but some of the hazing that goes on today is vile. Don't do anything that compromises your own health or values.

Effects of Hazing Last Long After Pledging Process | The Cornell Daily Sun

Brothers of the respective frats have told me that Phi Kappa Tau and Lambda Chi Alpha are non-hazing houses. What that exactly means, I don't know. The Lambda Chi brother said they do a lot of community service instead, and the annual Fraternity report says as much - Lambda Chi has about 400 hours more than the runner-up in community service hours, and way more than the average. See http://www.greeks.cornell.edu/PDFs/06/OFSA%20AR06.pdf

Hey, I just came up with a possible but definitely crude measure of hazing/pledging intensity - measure the difference between Fall semester and Spring semester GPA. The latest available figures are for '05-'06. This method has some 'face validity' (meaning it appears to be valid) - of the three non-hazing frats mentioned - their GPA doesn't fall much between semesters: Pi Kapp's mean actually increases by 0.088, Acacia's declines by a negligible 0.008, and Seal and Serpent's by 0.146. Of the two I mentioned, Lambda Chi's declines by a negligible 0.019, and Phi Tau by 0.242 (so maybe they do haze...).

drink ****

the asian sororities definitely haze (the ones that come to mind: akdphi, kappa phi lambda, ASR, SYZ…) except they try to present it as a “bonding experience.” does the end really justify the means? they also make you memorize a bunch of ****: nicknames/the names/founding dates/locations of all the chapters in the country/etc/etc and you actually get tested on it. physically.

…Physically?

the majority of the frats (except the ones mentioned so far) do haze. the extent of the hazing varies greatly based on the frat. people would never publicly say what frat hazes in what way, however, because they would be endangering their own frat.

the majority of sororities do not haze.

asian frats/sororities typically have worse pledging processes because they arent part of the interfrat/panhellenic councils

which is one of the reasons why they don’t really exist anymore
