What types of schools should I be looking at?

I'm currently just stressed about multiple things relating to junior year and colleges and am looking for some answers

1) PSAT/sat scores I got a pretty average PSAT score last year (wasn't too happy) I'm started sat prep classes today. If I study almost every night do you think I'll be able to raise my score a reasonable amount by January or spring?

2) college essays, not that I really have to write one yet but I've previously been planning on writing mine about my sophomore mission trip to Africa. Earlier this week I read a story in the news basically about how admission officers are sick of hearing about mission trips in essays. What are so starting ideas/inspiration for a good college essay?

3) grades/activities I always feel like I've done enough but now that the time has come that I actually look at it I'm really worried. I have a 3.6 unweighted gpa and my weighted is 4.2, pretty hard courses, student council (10th and 11th and probs 12tg grade), art classes (7th-11th and most likely 12th), youth group (since like 4th grade and hopefully 12th), a job (11th and hopefully 12th), best buddies (a club that works with disabled kids 11th and presumably 12th), photography club (11th and probably 12th), and winter track (only 10th, had to stop because of knee injury)

i just feel like I have a super average application with nothing really outstanding... Will this hurt me when looking at colleges? What types of schools should I be looking at?

Well I’m currently a senior in high school and a member of the IB program. Whereas my uw gpa is only a 3.75 the hard courses have bumped my w gpa up to an impressive 4.8. My EC’s are around the same as yours and my SAT isn’t all that crazy, a 1760. My biggest mistake was not taking the time to study for the SAT. What you do need to realize is that you can only get to a certain score. Meaning that your sheer intelligence will only allow you to reach a certain point regardless of how much you study. If I were you I would stick to colleges in your state. I’m lucky enough to live in Florida therefore I have really superb options such as UF, FSU and UCF. Guess it just depends on where you live.
