I'm a junior in high school and have a UC weighted GPA of 4.11 and an unweighted GPA of 3.95 with an SAT of 1890 (but I'm going to retake it and shoot for a 2000). Could I get into UCB, UCLA, UCB, UCI, or UCD? I'm also top 8% in my grade and in-state. I also have ECs like swim for three years, football for two, and crew for one. I haven't volunteered much, but I'm going to a lot during Summer. Do I have good odds?

I don’t know if you are a student of color, or if you are the first in your family to attend college? Without knowing that additional info, my gut honest opinion is that your odds of getting into UCLA or UCB are slim. You listed UCB twice. I think UCI or UCD are possibilities.

Why in the world would you need to know “if he is a student of color, or if you he is the first in your family to attend college”? That has nothing to do with his chances at a University of California.

Probably none because your SAT is very low and so are your ECs.

I actually meant UCSB my bad.

Race does not but, first in family to attend get bonus points at the UCs.

OP - if you get your SAT north of 2k, you have a shot at the schools you list - particularly if you are first gen college and have a compelling personal story. Keeping it real though, the UCB and UCLA will be reaches. All the schools you list are highly selective. Apply more broadly or, you might get shut out. How about SDSU and CSU Fullerton?

It also depends on your major. If you’re applying engineering then your chances are much lower.
Also look at csu cal poly slo

I’m also considering SDSU and CSU Cal Poly Slo, but my main choice right now is UCSB or UCD.

You are most likely in at UCI. For UCSB and UCD, you should also have very solid chances if you raise that SAT score and do research or internship or college class over the summer. The rest would probably be high matches/reaches for you, but there’s still a chance so don’t lose hope!
