yeah it's cut throat. I think I saw somewhere the admit rate of their med school is like 2-3%. I may be wrong

Um, I have no idea what JohnC is talking about regarding the 2-3% number that sounds like it's pulled out of nowhere. First, acceptance to Hopkins medical school is incredibly hard and there are many, many applicants applying for the coveted spots. The acceptance rate last year was 6.2% among all applicants to Hopkins med (not just those from Hopkins undergrad)

As for your question as to what % of Hopkins pre-meds get into Hopkins medical school, that's something that no one knows the answer to, because pre-professional advising doesn't track acceptance percentages for each individual medical school. We do know that over 90% of Hopkins undergrads are successful at gaining admissions to medical school when they apply, and according to the surveys of the graduates of Hopkins undergrad, they are at really impressive places:

The most frequently attended Medical schools for the class of '05 include Hopkins med, Harvard, Albert Einstein, and UPenn. If that's not impressive, I don't know what is.

As for Hopkins being cut-throat. There are millions of threads on this, I recommend searching the forums and checking out Hopkins Interactive ( http://apply.jhu.edu/hi ) for REAL student's perspectives on the matter, instead of trusting some guy on the internet who makes up acceptance rate numbers and who knows what else.

johnc- yes your're wrong. It's clear where you pulled this from...didn't /couldn't get in, and just lobbing in a bunch of crap and FUD for fun

johnc-Sorry! just re-read your post and my hasty reply, and want to correct my post. I think you were suggesting a low acceptance to JHU med school by JHU undergrad...yes, this is true from what I've heard. However, overall med school admission rate is high, >90% I believe. Not sure why Hopkins med school doesn't eat its young, but still a great place to prepare for med school...

First, not sure why people are "attacking" JohnC ... he did say at the end of his post he could be wrong!

The 2-3% admit has been stated before and I've even heard it before from people affiliated with the Medical School. The actual acceptance rate traditionally ranges between 5-7% per year, and that is for all applicants to the Medical School.

Now as far as the cut-throat statement ... it all depends on how you define the statement. Is applying to a top tier medical school competitive ... absolutely!!! But that doesn't mean students compete with each other for those spots, and "attack" each other because of this. That is just one of the great myths passed along by people who have not experienced how it really goes. Hopkins pre-med students are driven, internally competitive, but they do not "fight" with each other for opportunities, resources, etc. There is a great sense of collaboration at Hopkins that few talk about, because the general assumption is with such a small acceptance rate into top tier medical schools students must be competitive with each other. Not true ... do your research and you will see.

bluejay79: You are innacurate in what you allude to that it is harder for JHU undergrads to get into Hopkins Medical. Another one of the rumors out there that is not backed by the numbers. For the last few years, the largest %age of enrolling Hopkins Medical students has been Hopkins undergraduates. I've comented on this many times before.
