What University is bes for History majors?

UCLA
2.UC SAn Diego

UC Santa Barbara

UC Berkely

???

my situation: 3.1 gpa… many extracurricular activities, working full time, raised by a single parent. my goal:UCLA!!

UCLA. Jared Diamond is there!

UCLA, I hear, is the best for History out of those four. Look into signing a TAG agreement if you are at a CCC - I know that at my school, a 3.1 is the minimum requirement for you to be prioritized when applying. You will need to have accrued at least 30 units before being allowed to sign it though, and the deadlines are probably approaching if you’re applying this semester for Fall 2009 admission.

You should probably post this in the UC transfers section of this forum if you want any more input.

UCLA, but you need to learn how to spell first.

Uhh… Berkeley has one of the highest ranked history graduate programs behind Yale and Princeton. Since there are no undergraduate rankings for history, the graduate program ranking is a good indicator of the program.

[History Rankings — PhDs.org Graduate School Guide](http://graduate-school.phds.org/rankings/history)

Most students put a high emphasis on educational effectiveness and faculty quality.

I hope I can clarify a little. UCB as a department is ranked I believe 2nd in the nation. However I heard from a professor that Berkeley has a better reputation but is a smaller department. UCLA on the other hand has a huge history department and you will have more of a variety of what you will want to study.

Ah, I didn’t know any of that - I was just offering my word from what I heard. Thanks for that info.

There is no TAG for UCLA.

Sorry, I meant TAP.

Keep in mind you actually have to finish the TAP program once you’re admitted. Usually this is done by completing around 16 units of honors-approved course work.

Cal’s program is tied for second in the nation. Yale comes in first, Cal and Princeton second, Harvard and Stanford tied for third.

I’m not sure where UCLA ranks but the bottom line is you’ll get a great education at either.

And by the way, history is not capitalized and Berkely is actually spelled Berkeley.

sorry for missing the “E” in Berkeley… this guy, professor Educ8.

Well, really, if you can’t spell the name of the school you’re considering, then… yeah that’s a problem haha.

i say either UCLA or Cal. then ucsb at third… ucsd just outright sucks @$$ at history

on what basis?
