What university is best for me?

<p>EDIT: ** Thread really should be what universities are best for me</p>

<p>I'm a Canadian student (from British Columbia), and I'm looking to attend a high ranked university in the states. I'm basically after a school that would be better than the BEST in Canada (U of T, Queen's, UBC, McGill). I eventually want to pursue a career in business, and I understand this is not undergraduate, but nonetheless, I really would like the states for my education. </p>

<p>I made a thread a while ago posting my grades and extra curriculars, and based off of that (posted below), can someone make a generalization as to a few (prob 4 to 5) of the universities that would seem appropriate for me. Do I want ivy? Yes. Can I afford it? Yes.</p>

<p>My SAT reasoning test is scheduled for Dec. 2nd, and on Jan. 27th I have 3 subject tests to write (Math I, Math II, and Literature). These are late exam times, I know, but I'm sure you can just apply, and tell the universities your results will be automatically sent to them????</p>

<p>Anyways, post a few you think I would get into, even if you think I'd have a relatively slim chance, but there is still hope.</p>

<p>Race: Caucasian
Gender: Male
School: Public
School size: 1000 Students
Region: Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
Yes, I would have enough money to pay for any ivy league university</p>

<p>GPA: 4.0 (every year consistantly stayed at 4.0 AND unweighted)
Class Rank: Top 5% easy</p>

Literature: coming</p>

<p>Courses I have taken in highschool and my percents: (these are combined scores of the school mark and provincial exam scores)</p>

English 12 Literature - 94%
Geography 12 - next semester
Calculus 12 - next semester
English 12 AP - next semester</p>

<p>Other courses to go towards average but aren't important classes:
Fitness - 99%
French - 91%</p>

<p>Total average (grade 12 so far): 93%
Grade 11 average: 95%</p>

<p>From what I know about the canadian grading system, your grades are very strong. You have some strong ECs (the website thing is a nice hook)</p>

<p>Assuming your test scores are as strong as the rest of the application, you have a great shot anywhere. If you want to eventually work in business, you might want to consider business undergrad as well (although it is in no way necessary)</p>

<p>The best ivy-league schools for you would be Penn, Cornell, and Harvard (econ)</p>

<p>Thanks for the replies. Just thinking (hypothetically...) if I was to get low on my SAT's, would that considerably hurt my chances? I'd still have a good GPA and pretty high average, as well as my ec's...but am I basically relying on my SAT's to decide?</p>

<p>It depends what you mean by low...if it's below the 25th percentile of the school, you'd have a VERY small chance. If it's within the middle 50% though, you'd still be fairly strong</p>

<p>Cornell's ILR school. And supposing you don't do well on your SATs, you'd probably still be in the running (the low end of the middle 50% is around a 1300 i think).</p>

<p>1300/1600 but, the higher the better. if you do end up considering a business undergrad, you should consider schools such as NYU Stern, UPenn Wharton (relatively hard to get into), etc. I don't have the full list, but you can search around for it online.</p>

<p>don't go by businessweek's rankings. usnews should be more accurate...</p>

<p>actually, i'm not sure about that, but it's what i've heard. the lists are VERY different. where lehigh and villanova are high on businessweek, i think they're in the 90s for USNews.</p>

<p>Indiana University and U of South Carolina are two excellent undergraduate business programs. Plus, Bloomington IN and Columbia SC are two of the better college-oriented towns in the U.S.</p>
