What university should I choose?

Hello everybody! I am planning to study a major in one of these universities:

Georgia Institute of Technology
Purdue University
Ohio State University
University of Minessota - Twin Cities
Pennsylvania State University
University of Pittsburgh

My field is computers so I'd like to rank them in a way that you think will fit my needs:

-I am an ecuadorian student, so I am looking for a university with a very multiracial community, I like to meet people from all over the world, or at least from different parts of a country.

-I'd like it to be in or near a medium sized/big city

-I'd like the climate of that area not to be so radical

-I'm planning to get from 1800 to 2000 in my SAT, so it has to around that score, but you must also consider the posibility that I get between 1650-1800, since thats what I got the last time I took the SAT.

-I had a 91 score two years ago when I took the TOEFL test, I plan to get over 100 this time, so I'd like one college that considers those scores.

-I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly, but my highschool average was 18,4, which if I'm not wrong means a GPA of 3,68.

-I haven't really done many extracurricular activities, except for a literacy program for iliterate people...

Thanks for your advice ^^

Do not spend time ranking these just yet. Do that after you have actually applied, have been accepted, and have determined which are affordable for your family.

If you are still making your application list, contact the counselors at the closest EducationUSA advising center. There are two in Ecuador: [EducationUSA - Find an Advising Center](http://www.educationusa.info/Ecuador#.UFrxX41lTzg) Those counselors are expert at helping students in your country find good places to study in the US. They will be able to tell you what your GPA converts to here.

Good luck!

For your information:

Purdue University is not in or near a medium or large city (although you do not define “near”, I do not consider it near Indianapolis).

Penn State University is not in or near a medium or large city.

The others are all in or near medium or large cities.

University of Minnesota has a radical climate in my opinion (I am not sure what you consider a radical climate but most would consider Minnesota a radical climate).

How the schools compare for computers will depend on what about computers you plan to study. Computer Science (software oriented) or computer engineering (hardware oriented)?

I agree with lostmyeszett that Purdue, Penn State and Minnesota do not meet some of your requirements in terms of surrounding city area and weather.

In my opinion, Ohio State and Pitt meet your desire for a diverse university with international students and cultural/social diversity. (In the spirit of full disclosure, my S attends Ohio State, but he is a business major). Pittsburgh and Columbus, OH have similar climates, though Pitt is near the rivers so can tend to be a bit colder. Both are active cities with many opportunities to explore sports, music, arts and internship experiences. I am not familiar enough with the computer science programs at either school however to comment on the better academic fit.

Reach out to the EducationUSA advising center, they may be of more assistance and certainly have more perspective from an admissions fit perspective.

Best of luck to you!

Between Pitt and tOSU, I would certainly pick Ohio State as it is located in a larger city with more diverse community. Plus, the renown Ohio Supercomputing Center is located on campus!

OSU Super Computer

Best of Luck & Go Bucks!

P.S. I believe Ohio State also gives scholarship to International Students! :)

georgia tech if you get in

Ok guys… and what about my grades and scores? I don’t care about climate if I’m not going to be accepted because of them… I’d like you to give me advice about my grades and if I need to improve them, or if they are ok for these U’s…

About the money: I have 250,000 dollars for my studies…

Oh, also U of Washington and Toronto U can also be considered, I didn’t remember to put those on the list…

Thanks

bump :)… …
