What waitlists are active? Who has closed their waitlists?

According to other boards on CC, Wake Forest has gone to its waitlist.

Great compiling! has anyone heard from U Penn’s waitlist?

Poster on Amherst thread received an offer off the waitlist yesterday.

My son got an e-mail from Oxford (at Emory) a couple of days ago asking if he wanted to stay on the waitlist and saying they anticipate a few openings.

Anything for Tulane, Brandeis or Grinnell for domestic students?

I’d say “may open soon”, I guess. Here’s hoping!

@firstwavemom where to you see WF? I do not see that on their CC boards?? Someone says that a high school student got of the WL for ND (Notre Dame), but I do not see anything for Wake Forest.

@hcmom65 it was not on the WF board. I’m looking to see where it was–someone said a friend received a WL offer from WF. If I made a mistake, I apologize.

Years ago one of my kids was waitlisted at two of the three instate schools he applied to (accepted to his 3rd choice). He got off both wait lists . I would focus mostly on what the official info is that is being communicated directly from the college, as well as anecdotal evidence from reliable sources . Good luck to those still waiting for wait list resolution! It is not easy to “wait” this process out .

A couple of people have said they’ve gotten Oberlin waitlist offers in the past day or two, too.

My son was on the waitlist to
Minnesota and received an email a week ago (I think) if he wants to continue on the waitlist

@Mwfan1921 at #5 and @StanfordGSB00 at #50 can you please provide some clarification on UChicago’s waitlist this year? The waitlist threads have some admitted to Z-list but there’s just one w/l who was admitted to Class of '23 (unless I’ve missed something) and, @Mwfan1921 you had posted earlier of someone admitted. Are there others? If not they aren’t posting

This isn’t a big year for those waitlisted at UChicago. @StanfordGSB00, not sure what happened 10 or so years ago when you were admitted, but UChicago was pulling from the waitlist prior to switching to ED1/ED2. And if only a few are pulled each year that’s not as much a “yield” strategy as it is a “bed” strategy. UChicago is maxed on the res. halls till the new dorm opens in fall of 2020. So it’s much better to ask whether the student will commit so that they can either move on or admit you. That way they meet their goal w/o the over-capacity issue they had last year.

Any word on Cal Tech?

nvm. Had a question on #113 but that was edited out.

@MomLA2018 - you said in #115 (before it was deleted) that accepting a WL spot was like a binding agreement since schools “talk to the guidance counselors.” Not sure if you deleted because you discovered that information to be incorrect or not. Regardless, I believe the W/L’ee is allowed to accept a spot at as many schools as they want? And GC’s are required to support their students’ admissions choices? With an ED agreement (which IS binding), the GC actually co-signs to affirm that everyone understands that the student will commit if offered a spot. We haven’t done W/L in this household so not sure what the wording is, exactly. I wasn’t aware that the GC was required to disclose where else the student has accepted a W/L. That’s very likely a breach of ethics.

I deleted it because it is off topic on this thread. If you are interested in discussing our experience with this, you can DM me. Thanks.

My daughter has also heard of a Notre Dame student getting off the waitlist.

Accepting a WL spot is not binding and is nothing like ED. You should get a couple of days to decide if you are offered a spot, and presumably will have your FA package to look at before making a decision. And yes, you can accept as many WL spots as you want, and you can stay on other waitlists if you want to even if another school offers you WL admission (whether you accept that offer or not).
