9th: Biology
10th: Honors Chemistry
11th: AP Biology
12th: Eh, idk…maybe honors physics or honors anatomy or APES…or maybe I’ll double up if my schools allows it.
Required Core Classes:
9: Biology
10: Chemistry
Optional which science course but still required:
11: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, Physics, Anatomy
12th grade has no required science; you can chose to take one of the ^^ however.
9th: Pre-AP Biology I
10th: Pre-AP Physics
11th: AP Chemistry
12th: AP Biology or AP Environmental Science(not sure which)
Pre-AP=Honors/advanced classes
Well depends on how advanced you are…
for average people
9th- regular bio
10th- regular chem
for honors
9th- honors bio
10th- honors chem
11th- AP physics 1 or AP chem
12th- AP bio or ap environ
for really advanced people (~10 students out of 1000)
9th- honors bio
10th- honors chem+AP bio
11th-AP Physics 1+AP chem
12th-AP Physics C
well my school is pretty lenient, so if you feel comfortable you can take whatever you want.
for example, for me,
9th- honors bio+honors chem
10th- AP chem+AP bio+AP Physics C (both tests)
then I left for college.
9: Honors Bio
10: Honors Chem
11: AP Chem + AP Physics 1
12: AP Bio + AP Physics 2
What I plan to do is -
Honors Biology in ninth grade
Honors Chemistry in tenth grade
Honors Physics in eleventh grade
AP Biology in twelfth grade
9th- Biology 10th-Earth Science 11th- Chemistry 12th- Physics. People who are advanced in science take Earth Science in 8th, Honors Biology in 9th, Honors Chemistry in 10th, AP Physics in 11th and Ap Chem or AP Bio in 12th if they choose to take a science that year.
9th Grade: Biology
10th Grade: Chemistry
11th Grade: Environmental
12th Grade: Forensic Science
The sequence my school had before my sophomore year in 2013:
9th: Earth/Space Science
10th: Biology
11th: Chemistry
12th: Physics Honors (Regular doesn’t exist)
The sequence my school had since my sophomore year in 2013: (Earth/Space Science was dropped)
9th: Biology
10th: Chemistry
11th: Physics Honors (Regular doesn’t exist)
12th: (Any science class of your choice)
My school only requires you to pass Biology to graduate! 85% of students go on to take Chemistry and 30% go on to take Physics. Also you need an additional 2 science classes to graduate but they can be accomplished by taking easier classes such as Physical Science, Marine Biology, Anatomy and Environmental Science.
We also offer science AP classes such as AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics C, and AP Environmental Science.
Mine is:
9: honors chem
10: honors bio & ap chem
11: ap bio, ap environmental science
going into…
12: ap physics C, honors anatomy, and forensic science if that one counts lol
Only academic/honors chem, academic/honors bio, and academic/AP environmental science are required by the school. AP chem was the only AP available to sophomores and there weren’t any APs available to freshmen. The science course I’m not taking but probably should is honors organic chemistry
For me, at least:
9th: Accelerated Biology and Accelerated Geomorphology
10th: Accelerated Chemistry
11th: AP Chemistry
12th: AP Biology
There’s also Physics, Environmental Sci, etc. and core level options like Astronomy and Anatomy. Basically everyone takes some sort of Bio 9th and Chem 10th, and then you take your pick.
For your average CC kid?
9th: Honors Biology
10th Honors Chem, maybe AP Chem if you’re super advanced
11th and 12th: Virtually the same classes are available to juniors and seniors. No real track after sophomore year chemistry. AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Enviro, AP Physics C, possibly Honors Anatomy/Marine Science if you’re less scientifically-inclined. I personally took Enviro as a junior, and am taking Physics C now.
8th grade: Earth Science OR Science 8
9th grade: Biology/Biology Honors
Earth Science (if Science 8 in 8th grade)
10th grade: Chemistry/Chemistry Honors
Biology/Biology Honors
11th grade: Physics/AP Physics 1
AP Biology (must be taken with Physics or APP1)
AP Environmental Science (can be taken with or without Physics or APP1) OR
Chemistry/Chemistry Honors
12th grade: AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP Environmental Science
Syracuse University Project Advance Forensic Science OR
Physics/AP Physics 1
There are also a few classes like oceanography, concepts of science, and regular forensic science for those who fail out of classes like regular chemistry or regular physics.
Speaking of which, I don’t know what I’m going to do for science next year (11th grade.) I’m either going to take AP Physics 1 and AP Art History as an elective or take regular Physics and AP Environmental Science. If anyone wants to help me decide, MESSAGE ME LOL…
I always wondered if mine was the only school without physics as a required science. As a small magnet, we only had one sequence for science.
Fr. - Biology
So. - Chemistry
Jr. - IB Biology I
Sr. - IB Biology II
So much biology.
My school requires Bio in freshman year (two exceptions that I know of), a year of physics or chemistry, and an additional lab science. I am a total overacheiver, so:
Freshman year: Honors Biology
Sophomore year: AP Biology and Honors Chemistry and mayyybe AP Physics 1
Junior year: AP Physics 1 or AP Physics B, AP Chem, Astronomy or AP Stat
Senior year: AP Physics C, APCS, APES or Honors Scientific Research
Math:
Freshman year: Honors Geometry
Sophomore year: Honors Algebra 2
Junior year: Honors Precalculus, maybe AP Stat
Senior year: AP Calc BC
I don’t really have any real reason to take Stat, as neither Cell Biology & Biochemistry nor Astrophysics majors are required to take it
Lol, I remember when I made this thread, memories sigh.
Just for kicks:
9th - H Biology & H Chemistry
10th - AP Chemistry (only offered as a double period)
11th - AP Physics 1 (only AP Physics offered at my school) & DE Chem*
12th - DE Chem* & DE Physics*
*I don’t know exactly which courses I’m going to take
9th
Biology Accelerated
10th
Chemistry Honors
11th
AP Biology
Forensic Science
12th
Physics Honors
My school:
Standard Level:
9th: Integrated Science (placed into if you get bad score or didn’t fit in your schedule) or Biology
10th: Biology or Chemistry
11th: Chemistry or Physics
12th: Physics (If possible, they could do the AP sciences)
Higher Level
9th: Honors Biology
10th: Chemistry, AP Bio
11th: Physics, AP Bio, AP Chemistry,
12th: AP Chemistry, AP Bio, AP Physics or Physiology
Standard
9th: Physics (STEM honors option available)
10th: Chemistry (STEM honors option available)
11th: Biology (AP available)
12th: an AP of one of those, or an elective like APES, Marine Systems, Human Anatomy or AP Computer Science, or no science
For me it was Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, Physics. Some people take Earth Science in 8th grade then take honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Bio or AP Chem. Or IB Bio in 11th and 12th or IB Physics. You need 3 years of science to graduate and everyone must pass Biology and Earth Science. After that there are non Regents options
