I got accepted into it and before I do it, I want to know what it was like-- especially if you have experience in one of the NYC programs. What did you do there? Were there times when it was boring or too much commitment? Did people actually get dress coded there?
Hey! I attended Boston’s Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program last year and I can honestly say that the program changed my life. Every week we would learn a new programming language and then make a project with the language we learned. Also every Friday there was a field trip where we got to tour tech companies such as Google, Twitter, etc. The last two weeks were dedicated to final projects, where you would form a team and create any project you want with any programming language you want. I didn’t think the program was boring at all, I just remember after lunch people would get really tired. The only thing I can say is the last two weeks where you do final projects are really stressful. People did get dress coded there, but only if the clothes extremely violated the dress code, otherwise it was pretty casual. I wholeheartedly recommend attending! I had such a great experience and Girls Who Code opened up so many opportunities that I wouldn’t have been exposed to if I didn’t attend the program. I still keep in touch with the girls I met!
@buddy16 Hey! I’m attending GWC this summer and I’m worried about the dress code- just how strict is it? I’m a girl who usually wears leggings and short, as well as sweats- guess I’ll have to go shopping
Yes, If anyone could provide answers, that would be great!
@drakonus it is a little strict, I remember when one of the program managers came into our class she told some girls that they needed to dress more accordingly, but other than that it was pretty casual. You can definitely wear T-shirts and stuff, I just think they want it neat. My go-to outfit was usually a T-shirt and some nice shorts.
So, can you tell me more about the final projects being stressful? Was it because you knew you were going to have to present it, or something else? Thx…
