I'm currently appalled and don't know what major I should do now! I probably failed that midterm and I'm not even kidding. : [

Well you’re not a physics major if you’re taking 8A right? I’m assuming you’re a bio major. Just tough it out. Put more work into it if you need to. Don’t let a pre-req deter you from studying what you want to.

Won’t it basically get me denied from med school if I get a C or have to retake it?

is this your first physics class ever?

it was so hard… couldnt do like half the problems… deweese apparently doesnt curve… so T>T

okay phew! I was just thinking I was stupid. and I am somewhat hah but at least someone else thought it was hard haha oh my goddd I could do like 1/50 of all the parts. I hope he curves! I think he would. He seems like a nice guy.

=\ i heard he curves down… lol like 90% might be a B…

oh then I got an F haha

***… solutions are up already. missed 2,3,4 … so. 25%…

With Physics 8A, the key is to do practice MTs. Do as many practice MTs as you can get your hands on. Hang in there, go to OH and/or the SLC if you need further help.

hahahaha 888888 that’s soo funny because I’m basically with u. like what the efff is this. what do we do now! There’s no turning back. Sure it’s only 15% but if we get say a 5% out of that 15, that’s down to a B. And then for the next midterm and final, it’s not going to get ANY easier! I’m just dumbstruck. I HATE physics now. The education system did not prepare me for thinking about REAL things lmao it was always about huckleberry finn running off into the woods

And what are MTs?

MT = midterms

Get regraded and complain.

Will that work? The thing is I didn’t know how to do ANY of those. Well pretty much. I knew how to do like 5% of the problems. So asking for a regrade might not work…? I can kiss my dreams goodbye. Lol I mean if I can’t do this…then how am going to do 8B and upper divs lol

8B is more or less completely different form 8A. Personally, I did very well in 8A and yet I am really struggling in 8B. As far as I know, physics-type material for bio majors is limited to 8A/8B, that is unless you plan on taking a biomechanics class or something like that.

Though, it is important for you to know that the MCAT has a physics section on it.

If you are struggling in Deweese’s physics 8a class that is a very bad sign IMHO. 8a is easier than 8b for most people, but I think it also depends on the professors you have. Deweese is arguably the easiest of the 8 series profs. His tests are made to be doable. Perhaps he wrote a harder test this time, but it still should not be impossible. SEEK HELP IMMEDIATELY!!!

Keep in mind that physics tests are usually graded leniently, so you probably did better than you think. They reward you for what physics you DO know rather than punish you for what you don’t (–> ochem).

dude 8b was so much easier than 8a. (and a lot more enjoyable)

whosthat…seek help from WHO? I’ve gone to tutors in the SLC, ASC, and had one private tutor although he was pretty dumb for and slow for being a former GSI/hippie.

OThers…what grades did u get in 8a and 8b? I feel like I’d get a C and that’s not really good for med school if ya know what I mean. Is it?

You really just gotta put more work into it. Go to office hours any part of the day you can. I have a friend who was way below the mean for both midterms, then studied her butt off, and rocked the final and ended up pulling a B in 8A. There’s no hard and fast way to bring your grade up.

Something that really helped me in 8A was to have a study group. Ask the people you sit with in discussion/lab if they want to start one. I thought that would be kind of awkward to ask at first, but when I did they all were like “YEAH”.

I know. I know. I’m just not motivated I guess. And it’s ReALLY not the time not to be motivated because there are tons of people like me and then there are tons of people who ARENT like me that are going to succeed with a high gpa cause they didn’t screw up freshman year lol.

A lot of people in my discussion/lab don’t get things either but there are those that do…and if you ask them something, it kind of makes you sound really stupid : / help?
