Bottom line is that collegekids's cousin needs to just apply and see where HER family falls in regards to FA. Her situation may be vastly different from his, especially re assets, so her FA may be vastly different as well. I don't think she's going to know until she tries. It's very difficult to extrapolate one family's experience to another's. Too many variables.

Fa at blair and tabor were bad for me. They made a mistake and gave me none so I will not go to boarding school.I instead will probably go to Simon's Rock Early College of Bard.

Older son received about 80% of EFC, part of it in loans....but majority on a grant. Not a sports recruit. Younger son received 100% grant; a sports recruit.

To answer your original q's
I got what I expected at A and D (maybe a little more even), but not at C and H.

No, loans are not part of my package.

I'm not sure if aid affected the decisions b/c I got in all four schools I applied to (ADCH)

Lastly, D was most generous (100% and travel grants etc), followed closely by A (100%)

Our experience:

a boarding school in PA, coed, mentioned on this thread: about 67% of tuition in grant aid.

a boarding school in the Top 25 south of PA: a large grant (32,100); a loan of 2000; and the rest we pay out of pocket (4800). Not a recruited athlete, but a well rounded student.

Waitlisted at a boarding school in Delaware, probably because of FA.
