What was your experience with the Coalition App?

Can anyone provide and feedback or guidance around their experience with the Coalition Application? DD will be applying to several schools next fall that will accept the Coalition App (UofSC, Pitt, FSU, UF, GaTech). Since the Coalition is wrapping up it’s first year, I’m curious what hiccups you may have encountered with applications, letters of recommendation, Honors College applications, etc.

It went fairly smoothly for us (UF’s app), not as refined as the common app, but still doable without too much of a hassle. I expect they will have worked out some of the issues by next fall.

UF didn’t require letters of recommendations and the honors application is only open to accepted students, so it’s (and FSU’s) process is much simpler than say GT’s. UofSC also doesn’t require letters of recommendations, and like UF/FSU, they don’t accepted an official school transcript, but a self-reported version of the transcript. I think this is also the case with Pitt (no letters, self-reported grades)?

I really don’t think you’ll run into any issues with any of these schools, with the possible exception of GT.

Good Luck!

D used Common App for several schools and Coalition App for UFL and Emory. For Emory, my daughter’s teacher and counselor recs did not get to the school (even though they were requested in October)… We noticed the problem in December and had them “resent.” Her GC said it may have been an issue with the first year of Coalition App.

All was fine with UFL (they did not receive her ACT scores and had to deal with ACT to have them resent, but that was not a Coalition App issue. UFL was extremely responsive when we contacted them about D missing ACT scores–timely email responses. I was very impressed with UFL Admissions.

Coalition App essay word limit was lower than Common App.

Can someone explain how the Coalition Application (and Common App for that matter) works with the student accounts that each university seems to require in order to check their application status? Does completing the Coalition App somehow generate a prompt with the universities to create and account on their portal and email the applicant with a link to complete the setup, or does the applicant need to manually create their account?

At UF - you use the coalition credentials to log into the application status. The student doesn’t create a UF account unless the student is admitted.
