What was your favorite and least favorite essay to write?

I loved Pomona's prompt (describe an experience that was just plain fun and why). I wrote about my childhood obsession with fighting with wooden weapons and such...it was in narrative form.

But Claremont McKenna's, on the other hand, was my least favorite. I can see why they might have people "Identify and discuss a leader who shaped culture and though," but it was boring to write because I felt limited. I tried to fit in some personality (not too much, as it was an analytical essay), but it was definitely not as enjoyable as Pomona's.

if this better belongs in the essay forum, could it be moved? thanks :P

Favorite: Why Penn?

Least Favorite: Writing 4 "mini-essays" for UGA. They ask for 150-200 words. I thought they would be waay easier, but were actually quite limiting.

Favorite: stanford roomate
Least Favorite: why Columbia - too hard to write anything with such a short limit

Favorite: CMC analytical essay, because it was a very welcome break from writing about myself

Least Favorite: Northwestern's, since it was two disparate questions, a boring "Why college" essay, and I didn't particularly like the second half of the prompt.

(For any Northwestern admissions representatives reading this, I still like the school a lot.)

Favorite - Tufts - Who are you?

Least Fav. - main Common App essay. haha.

the common app was a my fav and least. i wrote on one of their topics- a fictional character!, but it is random how they have a couple of specific questions and then "any topic"!

I most enjoyed Cornell's, why I wanted to study film, even though it was a typical topic, I was most enthused about their program

Northwestern's was standard too..I felt like I wrote what every other person applying wrote.

Favorite - Why Chicago Essay. I got a good sense of what I wanted to write for that when I was visiting, and it just came together really nicely.

Least Favorite - Why Northwestern Essay. Northwestern has been my dream since sophomore year, but that essay just didn't come together for me like I thought it should have.

The common app and other supplements came out pretty well, but I felt pretty neutral about them. I wish I could be as excited about the writing in reality as I've always been in my mind. It's like Woo! I'm a writer! Go writing! I love it!...oh, you mean I actually have to write something now? Darn.

I actually almost always enjoy answering the short answer type questions, but I guess those don't really count.

least favorite - NYU talent show............../wrists

favorite - only 2 schools i have applied to required essays? hahaha woops.

Favorite -- Chicago "street" essay! I felt my writing flowed (for once) and I'm quite satisfied with the end result, which is rare for me. Hopefully the adcom will like it as well.

Least favorite -- The "Why ___" essays. =X

That is exactly how I feel. Every time it's required. Up until the last second, I reeeally don't want to write anything. Then pencil touches paper and begins forming thoughts, and I remember why I love it. I just wish it didn't take that much to banish amnesia.

As for essays:

Favorite - Williams' "Look through a window" essay. At first I thought it would be clich

Favorites: I liked NYU's talent show song, which was surprising since I initially didn't like it at all. I also liked a couple others of mine.

Least Fav: "Why Chicago?" I really love the school a ton, but I just don't think I was able to express it nearly enough in the essay.

Favourites: Even i liked all the four NYU 'essays'; I also thought Harvard supplement was one of the easiest since it asked for nothing specific...

Least favourite: Man, i hate all the Why essays.... sounds so cliche...

Least favourite: Man, i hate all the Why essays.... sounds so cliche...

why yale was my least favorite. it took so many rewrites to cut it down from 1700 characters to 500

my favorite was the penn supplement, that gave me a fun time

started to write the tufts essays, but they didn't come out so good, so I decided not to
apply :)

The best one? COLUMBIA. They give you free hand on choosing the topic, so you can present yourself in the best way.

I liked MIT's "describe the world you come from" and optional "something you've created"

the worst - Princeton essays. 3 about experience that changed your life and 1 about person who have influenced you. I simply have nothing to write about, so I decided not to apply ;)

agree>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

my favorite was definitely Amherst's supplement... it simply said to respond to a quote, something about Literature being the only way to overcome death. I wrote it very last minute but really liked my essay! I liked NYU's talent show one short answer and Barnard's "What's a ritual/task you do everyday that might seem normal to others but it special for you?" short answer.

Least favorite: The UC essays. I went through hell! like someone else said, I'm good at writing, I love writing, especially about myself... and then I actually have to and brain fart Same with the Common app main & Columbia.... i write better with an exact topic :P

Favorite: Why Duke?
Least: UC essays, they are standard
and Michigan diversity question, confusing

Favorite: All four of the Barnard supplement essays and my Tufts optional.

Least Favorite: Maybe...the Tufts "Let your life speak" essay. I had SUCH a hard time figuring out what to write.
