I would have put the following had I applied RD this year.

“What is your opinion on the viability of fake punts called on 4th and 22?”

I would have put the following had I applied RD this year.

“What is your opinion on the viability of fake punts called on 4th and 22?”

They are not viable.

@bluecoast

Haha did you read what I was going to use as my question on the first page of this thread? :)

Yale is a major reach for me too, so my supplement essay and why Yale I spent a lot of fun having. I wrote about Green Eggs and Ham for the essays, and about girls for why Yale.

I was reading Harry Potter again the day before submitting the application to Yale…
So I wrote…

“There are 4 dormitories with different characteristics at Hogwart(Harry Potter):Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw
Which dorm do you think Yale resembles the most?”

… Yeay I screwed up…;;;

ANYWAY

Happy New Year ~~^^

oh gawd. I know that CCers use the term “automatic reject” jokingly and sarcastically, but to this, I honestly call it an “automatic reject”

i have lost some faith in the quality of yale applicants now. facepalm. fourth-grader status

Oh, you’re so blunt/harsh, pigs. :/

EDIT: Not necessarily a bad thing, though. :)

What an awesome question! I would love to answer that! =D

@Microdog-haha I wonder how many people thought of that Harvard question. I bet it will give them a laugh the first time.

@Motion12345-I have got to say I LOVE your question. I don’t know if you meant for this but after reading it I thought maybe you asked about biting into an apple as an allusion to Adam and Eve. Maybe I’m just a nerd but either way cool question

I put a pretty standard one but this is what I had in mind:

"Think of a number between 1 and 10. If the number is the same as Yale’s number, you’re accepted. What number did you think of? "

I’m curious if in the end the “make your own question” could really make or break an application

Mine was, “Why did the chicken cross the road?”

@ bluecoast: I didn’t apply to yale this year (only a sophomore) but I’ve been thinking about that all day and how important it could actually be I have come to the conclusion that it really could be quite important. Haha, I was just brushing my teeth and thought to myself what I would write. Something like:

The problems we face in our lives wouldn’t be called hurdles if we couldn’t get over them. What was the biggest problem you faced to get to where you are today- applying to Yale University, the most awesome college in the world :)

It was a bit more eloquent when I first thought of it, but that’s the gist. It’s actually the question I wish appeared on Yale’s app, but I guess if you’ve overcome something phenomenal then the essay is the place to write about it.

Tell us a Joke you find funny and explain why. (i had humor as one of the importan things in people)

WannabYali - It sounds longwinded and cliche rather than eloquent tbh. Its a question - in the vein of their pithy, 25 words or less short takes. Not an essay.

“What is your opinion on the viability of fake punts called on 4th and 22?”

^ This.

“How do you respond to criticism”

^that.

@ theskylitup: well I think it could really show hardwork. And yes, it was kind of long winded, but it’s not as though that’s what I actually wrote, I’m only a sophomore. If I had actually been applying I would have refined the question of course. And furthermore, the answer can only be 25 words? I suppose that would be a very hard question to answer in just 25 words.

Haha, @bluescreen: I don’t respond to criticism well, especially when it is rude :)

EDIT: And theskylitup: did you apply this year? What was your question, seeing as you neglected to post one.

Biggest hurdle you overcame sort of sounds like an essay question rather than a short-take… It’s like MIT’s 200-250 word short essay, and rather generic. I think Yale wanted us to be creative and penetrating on Q5. Just my take, however.

Some super awesome questions on this thread. Had a lot of fun reading :)

Yeah, I didn’t know it could only be answered in 25 words or less, hence the essay-like question. By the way, that’s a quotation.

My question was:

“What would be the title of a biography written in the future about you?”

ETA:

Was this a reference to The Game? :D

ETA again: And my condolences to Yalies :(
