What!! We cant use a calculator on the Placement Tests?!!?!

Are they nuts? How are we supposed to do the Math section without a calculator? Wont we need to do graphing, quadratics, and etc..?

haha I just recently found that out also.. Graphs and quadratics can both be done by hand, given reasonable numbers to work with. From what I understand the placement tests are basically made like they were before there were calculators, i.e. without ridiculous numbers just because they can.

Yep no graphing calcs. You'll do fine. The math isn't insanely complicated. All can be done simply by hand

What kind of Precalc do they ask?

what are the effects of the placement testing? just what math classes you go into for gen ed?

can you get rescinded for not doing well?

The results of the placement test does not affect your admission into Rutgers. It determines what math class you should go to. It would be terrible to sign up for calculus when you suck at Precalculus. Just like with the writing portion. If you don't fare well with writing and the results of your placement test proves so, it would not be wise for Rutgers to place you in Expository Writing before grasping the techniques of basic comp. writing

ah thank you.

i'm exempt from the writing portion (you need at least a 600 CR, i got a 700), so i'm just taking math.

do i have to take the language one if i have no interest in taking one in college, and sucked at them in hs?

You don't have to take the language one if you have no interest in taking one.

A lot of people last year just answered one question on the Spanish portion and left when I took the exam, haha. You can simply just leave after the last math portion since the language portion is the last test of the day.

awesome lol thanks.

i am giving the placement test on the 28th of this month..
how do i prepare for it?
i have already seen the sample questions in the bulletin..
but i want to know whether i can prepare it from SAT 1 preparatory book..or are there some additional topics to be covered?
also any practice tests online?

is there any way to get exempt from the math portion?

no, I do not think there is a way to get exempt from the math portion, unless maybe if you already have ap calc credit. I'm not really sure.

and honestly, apart from looking at the provided sample questions, there is nothing really else you should do. I wouldn't worry about the placement exams; no one I know really prepared for these. just go unprepared and see where they place you, since they are supposed to show what you know about algebra, precalc, and calc. If you do poorly on a section, you probably should take that class anyway.
