"What were your favorite events (e.g., performances, etc.) this year?" Question

The supplement asks "What were your favorite events (e.g., performances, exhibits, sporting events, etc.) this past year?"

Can this be something you watched on television, but didn't attend?

yea sure i guess
i just left it to two concerts i went to (madonna and celine), some art exhibits (MOMA, Met, and another), and a book reading (david sedaris <3)

Hmm. I just talked about one particular one. Does that screw me up? I decided to do this with most of my questions actually. Instead of just listing, I named one or 2 and elaborated a bit. Does this mean I didn't answer the question?

Oprah!, I love David Sedaris! I put the "We The People" exhibit at Philadelphia's Constitution Center.

i highly doubt any of those questions would bear enough weight to "screw you up", unless you wrote "F*** STANFORD" or something

haha, true. They just want to get to know your interests a (very) little bit.

I wrote about the performance Fuerza Bruta.

Holy Crap, Oprah!!!!

David Sedaris is the freaking bomb!

Dudboi, this question is yet another way the admissions committee is trying to get to know you. My S, who was admitted, mentioned only two things, a sports event in which he participated and an exhibition of ancient artifacts.

Britney Spears. Write about her and you're in for sure.

wrote about obama and the election.

so if I wrote about a football or basketball game, but did not obviously attend, such as a championship game, would that be ok?

i think it's very trivial.
I wrote about having dinner with my family, and it worked for me.
(but then, i go to a boarding school half way across the world, so i dont get to see my family a lot)

Do you think writing about summer camp would be inappropriate here?

I think you should write about something meaningful to you, not what you think they want to hear. They want to see your personality and what makes you tick. @ldallas415, if summer camp had specific events that were meaningful to you and left a lasting impression, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be appropriate. It does seem to be more about an event as opposed to the whole summer or a camp, but if you can find an event inside of that, and it was truly your favorite, then write about it.

Early admit here. I wrote about going to Obama’s inaug, watching the Superbowl on TV, and the electricity of my final high school football game.

@TreeAlum exactly. While you should pay attention to strategy, what you really need to focus on is what’s true to yourself. You can’t write well about things that don’t actually matter to you.
