ive got no problems with nerd camp, my friends go there over the summer sometimes. i just wanted to know if CTY stands for camp teach yourself... and also, thanks again everybody :)

"center for troubled youth" actually talented, haha. cornellian07, you went to CTY??? sweet, i was at dickinson for many years of CTY. It was the shizzle. And USY, holla (o should I say hallah) anyway, enough of the bad jokes...

First of all, what does "guranteed" mean? Does that mean you're automatically in? And second of all, thank you so much for a such great site. Do you know anymore? My rural (i.e with cows still on the side of streets) high school does not post anything up!!!

ywang52: your stats and those of your classmates are an anomaly. Not yours personally, but your school is a feeder in the same way my HS, Princeton High (public) is a feeder for princeton U. It's not normal for 21 out of 270 students in the grade to be accepted at princeton.

I mean this in no derogatory way at all. I simply am saying it so others don't base their stats on your school's averages.

Rachel, I think your stats look great and you should write about hunting because I think that is so cool! LOL Also, I had my first real contact with the equestrian program this past week and while it's different than the competetive hunter-jumper barn I'm used to, everyone there is very knowledgeble and truly love sthe horses. You should check out polo as well!

A and S RD, 1450 SAT, 760 M, 690 V, 750/740/750 sat IIs, in writing, chemisty, match IC, and i got a 730 on history

wow... this is such an old thread. im so happy it's been brought back up :-D
anyway, trasi86, i do play polo. just not regularly. as in, im not on a team or anything. I used to take lessons occasionally, this guy just asked me if i would ride at his polo barn for the year so I may be able to enhance my 'skillz'. I went to camp to play polo the year before high school, so i dont think that helps me at alll, i also went to florida to play it. But it was only a two-week thing, so idk how much that helps me. And I haven't picked up a mallet in about... a year. I recently learned how to play polocrosse and won a tournament with that. polocrosse is polo and lacrosse, get it? iz cool. so i didn't want to say that i played polo because then they might think that ive got these amazing polo skills when really i havent played in a year, so for all i know i might not even know how to play anymore. But if i do go to cornell, im def gonna check out that polo team.

Sparticus, just to clarify, what exactly is a feeder school?

methinks a feeder school is a school that just 'feeds' its students into a certain school. Using Sparticus' example, his h.s fed its students into Princeton. So, a large amount of students at his h.s went to princeton. But at most non-feeder schools, only 3-ish? students are accepted into prestigious schools such as princeton. I don't know if that's correct. I just felt like replying. [please dont write something hateful back]

Pretty much the right idea, but it goes further. There usually are established ties between the high school's guidance officer and the college into which the high school feeds. Also, in many cases, spots in the college are usually reserved for that high school (as the high school has a history of producing great students, the college can reasonably expect a great number of qualified applicants from the school). For example, I think that Cornell has like ~20ish (maybe more?) spots for schools like Stuyvesant that they know will be filled.

Is that fair? I come from a small rural town in Connecticut and I'm wondering if that's really a disadvantage. Could you answer, towerpumpkin.

20 spots is only 0.006% of the freshmen that will actually enroll in the school. that number will be cut in half if you want to talk about number of people offered admission to the school.

No it isn't fair. It isn't fair for the people that attend those schools, at least according to some things I've read. Since everyone at those schools are among the best of the best, they need to try harder than the average applicant to secure one of the 20ish spots.

towerpumpkin, is that ur username on dc++ too? just curious since I saw it :)

Yeah...may I ask your screenname there?

i don't go on often, but I go by washer (random, because i was doing my laundry when I made it up).
