I accidentally SIR’d to berkeley (don’t ask how) but haven’t paid the deposit. However, my intention is to SIR to UCLA. Can i just submit it to UCLA as well and then call berkeley tomorrow to withdraw it? Will either school rescind my offer of admission??
You are not the first one making this mistake. SIR to UCLA and send email to UCB and call them tomorrow.
If I explain to them that it was an honest mistake, will my admissions offers still be jeopardized?
There’s no reason to explain anything. You just do exactly what @CAmom2020 said. Call Cal and withdraw your SIR, and SIR to UCLA. Preferably on the same day.
We did that exact same thing last year. Cal was be a bit of a pain. We sat on hold with admissions for 30 mins, then got xferred to somebody else where we left a message, who later called us back and told us to call somebody else, where we left another message who later called back and told us, “Oh you just have to send me an email.” Sigh; other UC’s just have a button you click on the website.
Anyway, other than that it’s painless and simple. Gratz to you on getting admitted to both Cal and UCLA!
I did the same thing. I SIRed to Berkeley by accident and want to go to UCLA. I haven’t paid the deposit yet though. Should I SIR to UCLA first or contact Berkeley and then SIR to UCLA?
@red109 If you haven’t already SIR’d to ucla at this point, I’m not sure if you still can. I SIR’d to ucla on May 1 right after I SIR’d to berkeley and then just emailed berkeley to withdraw my SIR. You should probably call UCLA to see if you can still SIR and if so, email berkeley about withdrawing the SIR.
Yeah, I think the deadline was midnight on May 1, unless you were admitted late due to waitlist or appeal in which case you have 72 hours from notification.
The order you SIR or un-SIR doesn’t really matter. My understanding of what happens is that every once in a while, maybe once or twice a month, all the SIR’s from all the UC’s get sent up to a central database. That database runs a check for duplicate SIRs, and that’s when you’d get into trouble if you’re flagged. I’ve seen posts from people that were flagged and rescinded from both UC’s as a result. But as long as you withdraw one SIR in a timely manner you’ll be fine.
