What will life at Chapman be like?

I got accepted to Chapman and was very excited about going until I started hearing things about the people there being fake and full of themselves. I'm from a pretty large city in North Carolina, and have gone to a private school all my life. I'm used to being with people who have a lot of money, and knowing everyone in the school, but i'm nervous about going across the country. I'm not much of a partier, and I'm not wanting to attend this school for its location--rather for its film school. If you go to Chapman, can you please tell me what it's really like there? How do you think it'll be for someone who lives in North Carolina and has never been to California?

I’ve not attended yet, tho i will in the fall, but i’ve lived about 10 minutes from chapman my entire life and it is absolutely incredible. A lot of my friends go there and are really content with the school. First off, the dorms are awesome and same with the brand new cafeteria that is seriously like a food court in a mall. The campus is small and theres only like 6000 students. Plus, its in the center of Old Town Orange, which is the cutest little district with a bunch of just antique and vintage stores. Plus, since you’re going into film, sooooooooooo many movies are filmed in Old town Orange and actually on the Chapman campus. And for California, you’ll love it. The crowds and traffic will take some adjustment, but the beach is 15 minutes away, I wear flip flops daily, and theres such a variety of well everything: food, clothing, entertainment. Plus, the school is literally down the street from the train station that goes straight up to LA or down to San Diego, which is a perfect way to get to jobs and internships. I also have had several interviews with admittance councelors and the art department, and they said that most students either are involved in an internship by the time they graduate or have one lined up. For film, I’d have to say living in Southern California, annddd attending Chapman is a great idea.

Good luck with your decision, and hope this helped! :)

all college kids are superficial and it will come with every school

i’ve only heard great things about chapman
and i’ve been living in california all my life
its a pretty great place to be
once you come, you’ll never want to leave

I’m thinking of going to Chapman too.
I lived in Orange County my whole life as well and I absolutely love the environment, weather, and surroundings. If that’s important to you then Chapman is great for you.

You’ll seriously be within minutes to: Knott’s Berry Farm (themepark), Disneyland, Angel Stadium (Baseball), Honda Center (Concerts), and like artmajor said, the beach.

Other great outdoor places to visit in SoCal is Big Bear Mountain and Palm Springs (Desert)

I’ve been accepted. Does anyone know about the night life? are there parties and etc to go to on the weekends?

True shizz.

Im lovin my major.
Im lovin the campus.
Im lovin the classes.
Im lovin Orange.
Im lovin LA.

What Im not lovin is a few natural college elements lost with a tiny school.
Im not big on football, so I wont even pretend.
I miss Marching Band, but I can live without it.

What I cant live without is knowing that If I feel like partying,
I can always find one.
I live in DC.
There’s always something to do here, especially clubbing.
Im afraid of being bored there. :(

Hahaha so cal parties way harder than DC

If you want a party, you will find a party. lol.

“clubbing”?

ha!

you are in Southern California, the land of clubbing.

I got to accepted to Chapman University as well, but still deciding on where I want to go.

Looking through the website, I saw a story once (that I can’t seem to find again) about how one person was talking about how they went skiing during the day and then to a beach party at night. My questions to the people that obviously live really near Chapman are: 1) Is there skiing near Chapman, 2) If so, whats the name of the Mountain and how far away are they (or is there just one) 3) Relating to Question 2, whats the skiing like? I live in New England, So i ski mainly up in Vermont and New Hampshire. This past february I went to Lake Tahoe for skiing and loved it.

@ewarman

im up in norcal so i snowboard at tahoe and was looking for places near chapman too

found this article, hope it helps!

[Prowl - Chapman University’s Online Student Magazine](http://prowlmagazine.com/article.php?id=76)

To my best recollection so you best Google for confirmation:
Closest skiing-Big Bear, Snow Summit about 2 hours away
Spring skiing/snowboarding, going on now, is skiing in the bright warm sunshine, in a short sleeved tee shirt and maybe some girls in bikini tops
Better skiing at Mammoth, it’s farther but worth it, much like Northstar in North Tahoe
You’ll find more snowboarders than skiers in your age demographic
Citizens of the OC are probably “fake and full of themselves” as the OP states but that doesn’t make them bad people, in fact, they are perfectly nice and likable people, IMHO
Beach bonfires in fire rings at certain beaches in OC-good times watching the sunset/rise

Except those people from “The Housewives of Orange County”-they’re despicable.

My son is going to Chapman in the fall for screenwriting-he’s interested in film. He will not have a car but is interested in the internships. Is the train a safe method of traveling to and from LA? I saw the train station on mapquest, and mentioned it but he said he heard rumors that there was a lot of crime when taking the train?? Is this not true? I don’t see how he’s going to get to an internship without transportation…like the train.

corinne, my son is from Texas and had never been to CA when he left for Chapman. He’s in the film school too (starting his jr. year), and he totally loves it. He feels that the film school is awesome and he has been very happy there.

collegejc, if you like to party, you might consider going greek. lots of parties.

gennjr, taking the train for internships is not a realistic option. S says that it’s $15 each way to take the train to Hollywood, it takes a long time to get there (lots of stops), then when you get there you have to take a bus to get where you’re going. So, it would be hours a day on the train. But, it’s unlikely your son would get an internship for the first year or two anyway. When it comes time for that, he will probably need a car.

Hi so i was accepted into the Chapman University Class of 2015 to start in the fall semester of 2011. My dilemma is between Chapman, Tulane, Delaware, University of Washington-Seattle, and Syracuse. The main things I am looking for is warm weather, good friendships, meeting new people, not knowing everyone on campus (keep meeting new people throughout my 4 years there), being a sports fan (lots of school spirit), many different things to do, people who are real, have your back, and are not judgmental, and I really like to party. all of these schools have these things but none of them have all. Chapman has the weather and good friendships i think, and different things to do like beach, bonfires, just different things from the east, and it’s nice that they don’t need to party to hang out. BUT I’m really worried that I’ll get bored because a lot that I have read said that people go home on the weekends and I live in New York so that clearly would not be an option, plus I don’t need to party all the time, but I would like to be able to do it when I’m in the mood and it’s the best thing to do on the weekends. I’m okay with it not happening EVERY night of every weekend, but it is something that I enjoy frequently. Does anyone know if that would be a problem? I have read that there is no nightlife. I am also worried that it is too small with less than 4,000 undergrads so everyone will know everything that happens? Coming from a small suburban high school I really want a change. Lastly, I can play Varsity soccer at Chapman which is something I need but it’d be a cool experience and it is my favorite sport.

Tulane has all that, except for the beautiful Cali weather, the original things to do like beaches and stuff because it’s a huge party school and that’s all they do there. I feel like it’s less of a real friendship and more of a party friendship and I don’t want just that. Plus, I can’t play soccer there which isn’t a necessity, but it’s a bonus. Washington, as well, too rainy.

Delaware is the similar situation to Tulane, except it’s much closer (0nly 2 hours hour) and is freezing weather and I don’t think I want to be that close, I need a change. Same with Syracuse WAY too cold, although the school spirit at these schools, party life, and size seems perfect for me to have fun.

I’ve been contemplating this for months now and it really seems that either Chapman or Tulane is my best bet, but I REALLY DON’t KNOW!!! I’ve heard bad things about the teachers at Tulane and a heavy course-load. I really need help so if you have any opinions based on the info i gave, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE feel free to send them my way!

Oh and i forgot to mention that I do have family in Chapman and Seattle (Udub) so that is a bonus for those 2 schools.

go to Chapman. Syracuse has the most miserable weather imaginable. Chapman is amazing! You are right by the beach, but at the same time, you can travel like 2 hours and hit the slopes. it’s great!

oh, and there are parties all the time. if you want to party, you can definitely party.

Corinne 92,

I feel the EXACT same way! I want to go to Chapman for film but I am also scared because I all I hear is that the people are fake and mean. I mean, Im sure its just rumors but it scares me too.I’m not a huge into partying also. Oh and I also applied to the film school, but haven’t heard back yet!
