all, what factors would tip the scale, assuming you want engineering.

nothing.

hehe

GaTech has a nicer climate, and it's probably way cheaper for most people. If you're instate (if you live in Ga), it's definitely cheaper (especially since MIT doesn't give merit scholarships, I don't think?).

southern home cooking

seconded. and sweet tea.

I guess I can't talk though, since I've already given up my spot at GT in favor of MIT.

Money.

One of my friends got a full-ride to Tech and has pretty much given up on MIT as a viable option, even though she's still waiting for the decision. Income bracket's too high to qualify for aid too, so the FAFSA wasn't even sent. =/

A surprising number of people do turn down MIT for Georgia Tech -- the year I analyzed matriculation data, a much larger number turned down MIT for Ga Tech than turned down MIT for UC Berkeley. (But a larger number than that turned down Ga Tech for MIT.)

I may be biased by my years in the northeast, but man, I wouldn't automatically give Ga Tech the win for climate over MIT. In the winter, maybe, but the summer there is brutal. My husband went there for a few days one summer to do a project with a former professor of his, and that visit turned him off from applying there for grad school. Too hot!

Division 1 sports too.

not getting accepted to MIT :D

ngolsh, how about a free-ride at GT (which I have!)

All buildings have a/c in the south; not always the case in the NE!

If MIT blew up.

The Varsity.

^that's a good one.

Well, I'm in GaTech already, but there's little chance of any financial aid since I'm an international applicant, so if I get into MIT there's nothing that will make me turn it down.

I agree with you. I'm also an intl applicant and have been accepted by GaTch

I got one.
You can call Atlanta the ATL but what do people call Boston to make it sound cool?
Believe it or not, even though I am Jewish, I have cousins from Atlanta.

mollie, now that i got in officially (i got the nerves to actually expect MIT admission!), what would you suggest I do with a GT fullride? i know you have more insight. pl. explain as objectively as possible. i know the standard arguments like visit and fit etc. i am looking for some insightful angles and views to help make my decision. by the way i am in at Stanford (35+ k cost for me) as well. thanks.
