What will Pomona think of these test scores?

I am considering applying ED2 to Pomona because it is now my top choice after my deferral from Williams College. With that in mind, I would have to send all of my not-so-great test scores to Pomona which didn't seem to help me at Williams (of course, I could have been deferred for another reason, but my test scores seemed like the weakest point in my application).

I have taken the ACT twice.
September:
Comp: 34
Eng: 36
Math: 34
Reading: 36
Science: 28

October:
C: 33
E: 36
M: 29
R: 36
S: 30

I took SAT IIs in October and got a 730 in Lit and 760 in Math II. I retook Lit in November and got a 720.

I really wish I didn't have to send my full testing record because my scores dropped instead of improving. I'm also Asian, so I'll probably be competing with a bunch of people who got 800s. Basically, if it seems my chances of getting in are too low, then I'll use my ED2 on a school which is easier to get into. I don't want another deferral. What do you guys think?

As far as other things go, I'm from the midwest, I have a decent GPA and class rank (but not perfect), good ECs, and good essays.

You don’t get the same bump from ED (1 or 2) from Pomona. Pomona is a great school, but if you are looking for a sure bet for ED2, this might not be the best choice.

Good luck!

As long as your test scores are in the range, they won’t make or break your application. I got in with a ~2100 while my friend with barely below a 2400 got flat out rejected. As long as you fulfill academic requirements, Pomona will look more at your personal qualities to see if you are a good fit for the school.

I agree with @TheAnti. S was admitted with 32 ACT. He had lots of athletics and leadership activities, wrote strong essays and interviewed well.

My D also got in with a 32 and SAT’s in the ballpark of what you’re talking about. I think once your scores are over 700 or 32, other things matter a lot more. Concentrate on the essays, grades and whatever you can say about EC’s.

Just to clarify my earlier remark, I don’t think you have anything to feel bad about your test scores, but you applied ED1 at Williams which very clearly states that there is an advantage to applying ED. You are now questioning how to use your other ED option at Pomona. Clearly you are competitive with others who have received admittance, the question is whether you would be just a successful applying RD. According to Admissions when we visited, their answer is yes, it is the same regardless of when you apply. Your question is whether to use ED2 for Pomona or for a school that gives a bump. My son had the same dilemma, but really loved Pomona, so decided if he wasn’t admitted to his first choice he would do ED2 so he knew earlier even without the bump.

Good luck, whatever you decide.

As you can tell from the list of those who were rejected ED1, test scores represent only a small part of the application. In all honesty, there is no certainty in college admissions - ED or RD. Should you decide to apply ED2, do your best on the essays.

Good luck!

I think I am going to apply RD. Thanks everyone!

my score is lower on the ACT (took it once) you should go for it without worrying
