What will the online application page say?

Well by my exorbitant experience in listening to other's verbose about vernacular speaking, I must......lol its so true.

I done lerned good cuz huked on fonex workd fur me.

OK, new question. Not sure if I am imagining things or not. My son's application still shows "Candidate and Complete". Just like it has for the last 2 months. However, it seems that something has been "Added" to the list of items. It says:

USAFA Form O-220 - Body Fat Determination
This form must be printed and mailed (or faxed) to USAFA.

It shows "Received and Processed by the academy", but I don't remember us doing this. Do you all think that it's something that is sent separately from the DODMRB when they went through the physical he did back in July? Had anyone seen this pop up on their application? Thx... Mike...

P.S. With all the great information you all provide on this forum, someone could write a pamphlet on "Everything you ever wanted to know about the academy application process". LOL!!! Thanks everyone for all the great assistance you all have provided. mike.....

It's a separate form, not a DODMERB form but an Air Force Academy form.

If you are close to (or over) their maximum weiight standards, you must fill it out, have a doctor or nurse sign it, and return it. They will then send you a letter with their findings (results).

For men, they want a neck measurement and a waist (belly) measurement.

If you subtract your neck measurement from your waist measurement and the result is under 20, you will pass.

USAFA has a 20% body-fat standard for incoming cadets.

I must assume then that "Based on the physical" he took in July, that my son ISN'T close to or over and therefore they just marked it off as complete and DIDN'T send it to be accomplshed. At 5'11" and 165lbs, I'm sure they didn't see it as an issue. Thanks for the response. Later... Mike....

This form is also sent out if you are close to or under the minimum weight standards. We received a letter from both the AFA as well as USNA last year concerning this. It gave us a chuckle,as the letter just mentions being over the weight/body fat limit, as our daughter is so petite (60.5 inches, 99 pounds). But, we did have to go to the doctor and send in the results. In the end, all was fine, and she was accepted at both schools.(She is now a plebe at the Naval Academy).

Question: Did any of you candidates, or parents of candidates, receive a snail mail letter for applying to the academy recently.

Last week, we received a letter from the academy similar to the one we initially received about 5 months ago. Basically saying that they are glad my son is interested in applying to the academy. They give the website; same one we used for the online application; to complete the pre-candidate questionare.

Of course, as soon as my son logs into the web site, it has his entire application and the status. Anyone else receive this "Duplicate" type of salutation. Later... Mike....

OK; Now that everything is done, I thought I'd fill in a few blocks as to what the online application might say during different stages. Maybe those who have applied and are waiting or will for the class of 2013, might find it useful during their wait towards completiong and hopeful acceptance.

1st section: "YOUR STATUS": Can change from PROSPECT to APPLICANT to CANDIDATE. It can skip a step or two. Once you are considered competitive and/or you have a nomination, it will become CANDIDATE.

2a. 2nd section: APPLICATION STATUS: It will say INCOMPLETE as long as there is something not completed in the list of items at the bottom of the application. When everything has been received, processed, and in order, the line will change to COMPLETE.

2b. Once you have been given an APPOINTMENT or LOA, the line will change from APPLICATION STATUS to APPOINTMENT STATUS. It will then show the status such as APPOINTMENT OFFERED or whatever is appropriate. Once the appointment has been signed by the candidate, sent back, and processed, the line will change to saying "APPOINTMENT ACCEPTED".

3rd section: SUBMITTED ON - LAST UPDATED. This is the date that you INITIATED the online application. The LAST UPDATED is the last time you made any changes to the ONLINE application.

4th and 5th section: USAFA Counselor/Local Liaison Officer: Self explanatory. The contact information for your Air Force Academy Counselor and your Academy Liason Officer (ALO). 2 very important people and contact information. Get to know them.

6th section: PERSONAL INFORMATION. VERY self explanatory YET VERY IMPORTANT. Ensure that all the information in this section is accurate. There were times this year where some people had 1 number off in the social security number or a type on graduating year, and the who application process was stalled. The applicant didn't even realize it until about September.

7th section: NOMINATION STATUS. When you receive your nomination, this will change to STATUS - RECEIVED and NOMINATOR - (Whatever type; such as Presidential, VP, member of congress). Untill the nomination is received, some have shown it as STATUS - MISSING with no info under NOMINATOR. For some reason, some have shown STATUS - AWAITING. Apparently, both mean the same.

8th section: ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: Another self explanatory item. Also another VERY IMPORTANT area. This is the info that you provided online. Should the info change, such as you retook the ACT/SAT and received higher scores, or you changed to a higher GPA or Class Ranking, you want to update this information. If your numbers actually went down, you might ACCIDENTALLY overlook updating it. LOL!!!!

9th section: MEDICAL STATUS: Until your medical is done, this can either say MISSING or be BLANK. Once you medical has been processed, which can be checked ON-LINE, it will change status to QUALIFIED, UNQUALIFIED, or sometimes a variation such as a "AWAITING WAIVER" or some other variable.

10th section: HIGH SCHOOL: Pretty self explanatory.

11th section: CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVE: Very important. Remember, each of us ONLY has 1 REPRESENTATIVE in our state that we can go to for a nomination. Make sure that the district is correct and the representative is correct. If it's not correct, have it fixed. If not, it's possible that if that person gives you a nomination, the system won't accept it because it thinks you got a nomination from the wrong person. SIDE NOTE: We all have 2 senators that we can petition for a nomination, but ONLY 1 REPRESENTATIVE. For people in places like WYOMING, there is ONLY 1 REPRESENTATIVE in the ENTIRE STATE, so it's pretty easy to figure out. People in California and other large states sometimes pick the WRONG Representative.

12th section: REQUIRED FORMS: This is the final section. These are all the forms; online and hard copy; that are required. The status will either be; a) MISSING b) Received and awaiting processing c) Received [some things don't need processing] or d) Received and processed by USAFA. NOTE: The last form is for the 3 teachers to give an online recommendation of you. Because it's 3 individuals, it will say "All evaluations have been received and processed (or waived) by USAFA" or ot might say "2 evaluations received" or whatever is appropriate if all 3 haven't responded yet. Keep up on this one. They are done via email. Some teachers use hotmail, yahoo, etc... and sometimes the academy's email system rejects the email as "SPAM or Junk mail". If the teacher says they have sent it, and it says it is missing, check with the counselor. There is a HARD COPY that the teacher can fill out and mail in.

Anyway, I hope this information is helpful to some. If it looks like I missed something here, please copy the ENTIRE POST to another post and ADD THE MISSING PART. Just like we have been doing with the ACCEPTANCE thread saying who has received an LOA or APPOINTMENT. This way someone needing this info won't have to read a hundred posts and glue them all together to get the info needed. If the moderators are reading this, feel free to cut and paste or make this entire thread a "STICKY" IF you think it will be helpful. Later,..... Mike.....

All my file had been complete for a while but my appointment status changed from L.O.A. to "Your Application is: Complete". What does that mean?

Did the application status actually say "COMPLETE" prior to the LOA, or were you just sure it was complete? Were you actually notified of an LOA or did it just say that online? If you did receive an LOA, was it requiring just a nomination or DODMB? If so, did you receive the nomination and/or DODMB?

IF YES, to the LOA/Nomination and/or DODMB then your application has reverted back to being complete. In theory, being you had an LOA, assuming you did, then they should be processing an appointment offer. Your status should change to APPOINTMENT STATUS: APPOINTMENT OFFERED. Then when you sign and return the paperwork they send, it will change to APPOINTMENT ACCEPTED.

If anything I wrote doesn't add up, I suggest calling your counselor.

Mine says the same thing too azcadet. I got an LOA in mid october and received the nomination a couple weeks ago. The nomination was the only thing i needed. and mine also now says complete.

Same situation as azhockey and AZcadet, if either of you guys get any paperwork please post or send me an e-mail. BTW, who did you get your nominations from?

I got a principal from my rep. (Trent Franks) and an alternate from McCain.

I got nominations from Senator McCain and my Rep. Jeff Flake.

Ok, i've got nominations from McCain (alternate) and Mitchell. Well one way or another i'll see you guys in the near future, let me know if anything come in the mail.

One bit of info that might be useful to add to Christcorps list;

If you need to send ANY additional academic information to the Academy (ie increase in class rank, National Merit, Captain of spring sports team etc) Make sure that you have the school send it. If you send it your self, it will not be considered.

my online page now says appointment offered!!

Congratulations! :)

Me too! Finally done waiting!

My son's changed as well, and the big white appointment envelope arrived today.
