Let's say you want to jump ship and avoid paying back your college debts so you head to Australia or Great Britain. How much would a degree from an American university help you to land a good job in those foreign countries?

A good degree would help you anywhere, be it the UK, the US, or Chad. People (and by that I mean government, businesses etc.) tend to “trust” those who are well-educated.

perhaps you ARE dreaming big, but how is it ever possible to run away from your debt?

and how are you planning on getting a job outside the US without a valid work permit?

If you are a US citizen or legal permanent resident living and working outside the US you are obligated to file a Federal Tax Return every year whether or not you have income that is considered taxable in the US. In other words, the US government would be able to find you. Whether or not they could get hold of any of your foreign-earned income would depend on various treaty relationships, but you can be absolutely certain that the organization that loaned you the money would come looking for it.

The only certain way to avoid repaying your student loans is to die.
