What would a transfer student have to do to attend Vandy?

I'm a california community college student and Vandy is my top choice. So, i was just hoping for some insight from people that go to vandy. Any information would be greatly appreciated! =]

Got in to CAS last year as a transfer. My stats are fine, but I think they’re abysmal compared to those of today’s Vandy freshmen.
R: 720 M: 650 W: 720
SAT II: Literature (horrific), SAT Bio-E (not good at all), Spanish w/ listening (quite bad too)
TOEFL 116
GPA (music student): 3.96
HS GPA: forgot – around 3.8
I wrote a bunch of extra essays (I’m a very good writer–so far I’ve been getting perfect or near perfect grades for the essays I’ve written at Vandy)
I also sent a CD of my piano playing, which is quite professional. I’ve been performing publicly since age 10.
The 2010 transfer acceptance rate was about 40%, I think. And around 50% for the previous year, and 55% the year before that

Two or three people I know were accepted the same year. They both received 2100 on the SAT.

I never participated much in high school, my gpa was like 2.6 and i didn’t even take the Sats. Does Vandy require transfers to have taken the sats? If they do, i will take them.

Your chances are slim to none. The SAT (or ACT) is of course required.
1.8% of the 2010 enrolled freshmen received a GPA of 2.50-2.99 (0.2% had a GPA of 2.0-2.49.)

Last year, my admissions officer emailed me before I was accepted and informed me that I will very likely be rejected. I was accepted somehow, and admissions didn’t even put me on the wait list. I’m still quite boggled–and ineffably grateful–for getting into Vandy.

As a transfer applicant, your chances of admittance are probably better than those of a first-year applicant. But it’s no cakewalk.

Well, It’s a good thing i’m not applying out of high school. I understand my high school gpa is terrible, but i’m not to worried about it. As of right now i have like a 3.1 and it’s rising. I plan on having at least a 3.5 once i start sending out applications, which will be during the spring semester! My goal gpa is 3.7.

Would i still be able to take he SATs, even though i’m in community college?

It’s easier to get in as a transfer student than in the freshman pool, but with a 3.1 and rising at a community college, it’s pretty unlikely you’ll be accepted. Test scores are required, so you need to take the SAT or ACT.

Pancaked–nice quote. Forgot to mention that I transferred to Vandy from an academically awful school. I was a student in its music department, about the only program that is decent in the place. Most of the other schools that I tried to transfer to rejected me, including a few match schools and one safety (I only had music credits and I applied for psychology, which made things tougher).

Slylingual, the point is…although you shouldn’t get your hopes up, you must still work your butt off like you’re on a manic episode and a crapload of Adderall.

Haha congrates, man! I appreciate that, and I too also am majoring in psychology. Along with majoring psychology, I’m going to go ahead and guess, that you also want to be a lawyer, am I correct?. It seems we may have a lot in common. Hahaha
