Anyone could answer my question?
"what would be a competitive SAT score range for an international student?"

So, my friend whose family has given a building (seriously) to Dartmouth got a 2080 also. Does this mean he's in?

Large donations by parents would give a legacy a hook. Assuming all of the other stats are comparable to what you'd expect from a student who gets a 2080, he will probably get in.

^Thanks. Yeah, his other stats are on track-good GPA/transcript, but not blowing admissions officers out of the water. His ECs are really solid though.

I went to a Dartmouth information session in my area, and the admissions officier said they don't even look at the writing portion, so I guess a 1550, 770 C.R., and 780 Math.... thats the top 75 percentile, I only got a 1470 =( , 750 C.R. , and 720 Math.......

^Word, I only got a 1480 (780 math, 700 CR)

I only have a 1540 (760 CR, 780M). Goddammit! Why do I always fall short?

Whew! Writing is my downfall! 1520 core with 670 writing...Now I just have to hope Brown will do the same...

I sincerely doubt that.

sneamia, in what context was that said?

Sorry, I was mad tired last night so I probably wasn't coherent.

I doubt that Dartmouth completely disregards the Writing Section scores. In fact, I doubt that Dartmouth completely disregards ANYTHING, even if they say they do. If they have two identical applications with a 700-700-600 and a 700-700-700, I think it would be hard to ignore the Writing scores. Furthermore, this can probably be scaled back to two similar applications, or two not-so-similar applications, where it comes down to the Writing score, among other trifles, to decide who is Dartmouth material.

i was just in the information session a few weeks ago and admissions said they look at SAT last and dont take it as a big part in their decision...i would chill about it

Gosh, then I wonder how thy keep coming up with higher scores year over year. Coincidence? The world just keeps getting smarter?

Do they really say these things at info sessions? Is this how schools get 8 kids to apply for each seat?

although I believe the SAT is not the deciding factor in any application, it is definitely still important. Anyone who feels like it doesn't really matter is in my opinion delusional.

I am sure they look at the writing portion, in the sense that they glance at it, the most important scores are the c.r. and math scores.......

It's not necessarily that the world's getting smarter, but the population is getting larger, so there are more smart people to fill those spots which remain constant.
