What would be a good busienss major for me?

I am an international student and a minority in the US. But I am pretty confident in my English language even though I have to keep practicing. I also speak Japanese, Korean, and a little bit of Spanish.

And I am a Kelley direct admit and I don't know what would be a good major for me. I may go back to my country and work there or maybe if I am fortunate I will get a job here(not likely).

Considering my background, what would be a good major? I would like finance or marketing so far. Accounting is out of mind since CPA would only be valid in the US.

But one thing I would hate to do is investing or stocks. Because stock market is pretty much gambling I believe. It is like a legalized gambling to me. And I gotta admit that I am not a good analyzer.

Please let me know what would be a good major for me. Honestly, no matter how hard I study, my english communication skills would be not as good as native American born grads, so consider that when you give me an advice.

HAVE A FANTASTIC EASTER!!!

En serio, no creo que marketing seria una buena idea, porque usted no habla ingles bein, y eso es un grande desventaja. Lo siento por no utilizar accentos.

or if your Spanish isn’t good enough…

深刻では、私は英国のbeinを話さない、それは大きい不利な点であるので深刻なマーケティングよい考えことを信じないし。 (I used a translator for this one, not sure how well it works)

or if your Spanish and Japanese aren’t good enough…

심각한에서는, 나는 당신이 영국 bein를 말하지 않기 때문에 심각한 매매 좋은 아이디어 믿지 않는다, 저것은 중대한 불리이다. (again used on online translator)

or if your Spanish, Japanese, and Korean aren’t good enough…

In all seriousness, I don’t believe that marketing would be a good idea, because you don’t speak english well, and that is a major disadvantage in marketing. But your english seemed good enough in your post, and if you didn’t mention that you were international, I wouldn’t know, although looking back I can tell it is somewhat rudimentary. In marketing, I think that you will need to convey many ideas in a very detailed manner (although my experience is quite limited).

Thanks Senior. I couldn’t honestly understand your spanish cuz my spanish isn’t good enough… But both your japanese and korean phrases were incorrect i must say…:)

But , yeah… I think you are right in that marketing would require very good communication skills. But as i said, i am definitely considering working in my country. if possible, i would love to work in the us for a while. considering my future plan, would finance be the best choice for me?

i personally would like to work for a bank or a government organization where you don’t have to make predictions for the future like stock market…

I do not think finance is better.

Unless you are looking into S&T or quant finance, IBD or even private equity are simply glorified sales job, you need to be able to sell your clients a potential deal.
Also, when everyone’s complaining about the 100 hours they work per week, they probably wont want to spend the extra 5 minutes getting the details from you.

Look into something number oriented i think

Thanks Bearcats. I completely agree with you. But let’s say I go back to my country where my first language is spoken. Do you believe then my degree in finance will shine there? Because US is still the center of the world capitalism and money, and I think a finance degree from an American college will be recognized over there. What’s your opinion on this?

How about for someone who hates maths and who has parents who are keen on having their child in majoring in some aspect of business?

What part of business would you recommend, or is not at all possible if this person (really) hates maths? Would marketing then, be ideal? Or would no aspects of business be a viable solution? :S

Thanks

P.S Sorry for hitching onto this thread - I can move it if need be…
