I am an international student and a minority in the US. But I am pretty confident in my English language even though I have to keep practicing. I also speak Japanese, Korean, and a little bit of Spanish.

And I am a Kelley direct admit and I don't know what would be a good major for me. I may go back to my country and work there or maybe if I am fortunate I will get a job here(not likely).

Considering my background, what would be a good major? I would like finance or marketing so far. Accounting is out of mind since CPA would only be valid in the US.

But one thing I would hate to do is investing or stocks. Because stock market is pretty much gambling I believe. It is like a legalized gambling to me. And I gotta admit that I am not a good analyzer.

Please let me know what would be a good major for me. Honestly, no matter how hard I study, my english communication skills would be not as good as native American born grads, so consider that when you give me an advice.

HAVE A FANTASTIC EASTER!!!

ask yourself these questions first:
- why do I want to major in business?
- what are my interests?
- what am I good at?

Your question seems pretty vague and no can make any suggestions based on the information you have provided.

Thanks for the advice coolkidd.

First of all, I like to do business because we live in a world full of business meaning I can work in an area that I am passionate about.

Also I love to interact with other people even though I am a foreigner. I have been very social in the States and made great friends here. I think my socialization skills will be a plus when I become a business person.

Also I am interested in politics, business, economics, and some other social science areas. So business should be a good major for me considering the demand in the job market, income, etc.

What advice could you give me after reading my post?

you said no investing so finance isn’t for you then. every other business major seems fine based on what you are looking for…MIS, accounting, business organization/management, marketing. keep in mind that you don’t need to be a business major in order to be a part of the business world. just do what interests you and whatever you are good at.

There is more to finance than simply playing with stocks. You may want to read about corporate finance before completely dismissing finance as a major:

[Corporate finance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Corporate finance - Wikipedia)

Uncertainty makes investments a bit of a gamble, but people are compensated for this risk in the form of higher avg returns (no risk, no reward). Anyways, it’s not like people are simply throwing darts at a board. There are numbers behind the valuation of any asset whether it be a stock, a private company, a piece of equipment, or an office building.

Thanks vectorwega. I completely agree with what you said. But based on my ability and taste, I don’t think I will be good at investment. I am more of a guy who works harder than anyone and wants to get recognized for that rather than my ability to make alot of money by investing once.

I want to work continuously and consistently to make my company thrive. Would finance still be a good major for me? I would personally work for a multi national bank where I can meet variety of customers and be kind and accessible to them.
