What would be an admission's officer reaction to this?

Just a hypothetical situation, let’s say you had a 4.0 GPA, took 9 APs, and got 5s on 8 of them, and got a 1 or 2 on 1 of those APs, what would they think, even if that person got an A in that class with not many getting As in the class? They don’t even see how many got an A, do they? And what if that class wasn’t your intended major at all and even your ECs showed that? Do you still show the 1 or 2, or conceal it? Do they even care? I mean, it would kinda stand out if you have these stellar numbers and then you had a 1 or 2 on just 1 AP, even if you got an A in the class, right?

they'd think you were sick or bubbled in wrong or something like that. i'm nearly positive that one non-passing score will not overshadow eight 5s. I wouldn't try to conceal, but I wouldn't try to draw attention to it either.

If they know your high school and know that the course is difficult, they'd think that you probably were sick or something when you took the test.

If they know that you come from a weak high school, they'd probably assume that the AP course was not taught well, and your grade reflected that lack of good instruction.

You don't have to to submit your AP scores when you are applying. You really don't have to submit them when you get to college unless you are looking to get credit for the course. Many select schools only give credit/placement for scores of 4 or 5. Some are looking into eliminating credit for AP all together because schools don't think the course covers the depth and breadth of a college course and others simply teach to the test.

Even if you choose to submit AP scores as part of your application, most schools won't use them as part of your admissions decision!

I really wouldn't worry about it. What was it, Physics or Chemistry? Don't freak out. It won't overshadow the other scores.

"What was it, Physics or Chemistry?"

lol

Thanks for the responses guys, this was a purely hypothetical situation because there is no way I have taken 9 APs. Sometimes I'm watching something or sitting around and I just think of these scenarios and I was really wondering what they would think, who knows it may happen. But I try not to post stupid questions. Thanks again though :)
