So for starters, I am a freshman in community college and I just so happen to live in the same district as Yale so it is a place I am familiar to. I am currently doing a transfer degree (CSCU biochemistry transfer) and I really wanted to transfer to Yale once I get my two year degree.
Unfortunately, I did not do well in high school, as I have type one diabetes and the hormones of going through puberty and my early teen years took a huge toll on me up until recently, which is when I suppose I stopped growing and whatnot. However, this would affect mostly my attendance and subsequently my grades so I had lower GPAs despite being in all APs. I even managed to finish most of my tests with 4s despite having a C average in those classes. I feel as though my transcript manages to show how despite me being disadvantaged and held back by my physical state to the point it reflected in my grades, it did not affect the quality of the work I was able to complete.
Now I am in my first semester, and with being healthier and in a better mind state, I am managing to keep straight As and 100s on all my assignments. I know a lot of people are going to tell me my chances are low, but I’m hoping that my goals and determination for my career will manage to get me into the school of my dreams even if it’s hard. I’m mostly hoping to transfer to minor in biochem and major my degree in biomedical engineering. My main goal is to make advanced robotic prosthetics for people with amputations and whatnot, since as a diabetic I have a lot of damage due to the poor management in my earlier years, and my left leg is most likely going to need to get amputated. I plan to go into this hardcore in my college essay so they know I have my own personal stakes in this besides picking a “fun” career or one that makes me money.
Just let me know your guys thoughts on my chances and if you have any advice for me, since I’m a dumb 18 year old with no experience, knowledge or direction on any of this stuff, and my college advisory is extremely slow lol
Lots of luck for the best students but… I can think of many much more appropriate schools for enginerring and robotics then Yale. Think your looking in the wrong direction honestly. Just look at most Big Ten schools robotic departments and facility and faculty then look at Yales

Close to 0% chance of being able to transfer to Yale. Frankly, I wouldn’t apply unless you have a lot of free time to commit to the application.
