What would be the ballpark financial aid I would receive if my family income is 26,000 a year?

I know most people would say, "it depends on a case by case basis", but I need to have a ball park for how much I should expect. $1000? $5000? or more? Especially because I'm poor, I need to have little idea of how much money I will receive so I know to eliminate schools I definitively can not afford. I am already accepted to an out of state private college with a full tuition scholarship but room and board is $15,000, which as you can see I can not afford being that it is more than half of my family income. So I guess, in this case it would be federal aid?

Go to each college website and put your family finances into each net price calculator. This will give you a decent estimate of your aid as well as net cost to attend that school.

If you have a full tuition scholarship…it is very possible that you will also be receiving a Pell Grant…and likely the full $5730 amount. In addition, you can take the $5500 Direct Loan. If you get a job, you might just be able to over the costs over and above the full tuition award you already have.

Make sure you complete the FAFSA ON TIME…and as early as possible after January 1.

You want a number when it truly depends upon the school. It appears that you might qualfiy for close to the full PELL and can also take the Direct loan. But there will be maximums imposed based on the cost of the school, and if you are full time and other conditions.

The best thing to do is to use the NPC and see what the schools you have in mind, and some that might come to mind would give you. You’ll likely see variant amounts.

NPCs are sometimes accurate, but they’re not exact amounts, for example, I recently got a 20k scholarship instead of a 19,500 one. Small difference you’d think but 500 dollars in 4 years could be the difference between attending a school and not attending a school. That’s 2,000 more in debt I’d be in if I did attend the school and got what the NPC said.

Anyway, I think you should probably tell us what college it is, OP, that might help someone.

You really need to use the NPC on each of your schools’ sites.

We don’t know if the schools will give you additional institutional aid, but it sounds like you’d get a Pell Grant 5700 and a 5500 loan…and maybe more.
